There are now Kroger stores in the valley? If so that's good news.

I thought the same thing. Did a location search on Kroger site. Closest one is 267 miles north of McAllen. HEB is the best.

I may be wrong I thought we shopped at a Kroger in Pharr. But you are right HEB owns the valley.

Maybe I have fallen behind the curve, but isn't "Vegan" food that isn't meat or dairy? If so, doesn't any grocery store have vegetables for sale?

There is much more available these days for vegans than just vegetables. There are vegan foods available that provide protein, etc., for a healthy well-balanced diet. Lots a soy-based choices. And so on.

And vegan actually means foods that are not processed with any animal participation, so that means no honey or mushrooms.

Gone are the days of the pale skinny hippie vegan. ๐Ÿ˜‰
Fruit and most vegetables require bees for pollination, are they all off limits as well? Earthworms and other insects are a necessary part of breaking down the silage other organic matter into usable nutriments for those edible plants. How is using bees, beetles and earthworms as slave labor ethical?

That's the difficult part of being vegan - at some point, you have make a line that you won't cross. Some folks will include mushrooms others won't as so on.

For me, I'm vegetarian. I just do what makes sense to me and don't do what offends my personal sensibilities and ethics, and I don't worry about how others see it. It's a personal choice as to how far you take it.

Veganism is not a diet as much as a lifestyle that does not harm or use animals in any way. Different people have a different interpretation of what constitutes "use or harm". It would be pretty boring if my wife and I only ate vegetables!!!! There are lots of alternatives available now.....just trying to find a source. Each to their own.......

HEB stores vary in size and the type of food carried. One of the largest and most upscale stores in the RGV is the HEB on the corner of 10th and Trenton on the north side of McAllen, TX. That is where I would start any search.

HEBs carry quite a selection. I would check the HEB Superstores. They seem to carry the most in vegan and for those that are gluten intolerant also.
