The wife and I are considering this area for next July. Any recommendations on campgrounds in the area. Full hookups are nice to have however electric and water are fine as long as a dump station is available. Creekside site would also be nice and pet friendly. We have 32 foot travel trailer pulling with a F-250. We are looking for somewhere for a base camp to go and see the water falls and the land. We are good Sams members also thanks in advance. Would like to find one that is not a parking lot type place a little space between sites is nice. I have read reviews online and would like to have some advice from the knowledgeable people on here thanks in advance

Thanks for the continued replies. A creek site does sound nice to listen to the water can be relaxing. We will be in the crazy side of the smokies in pigeon forge at Mill creek resort in November and March. That is reason asking more about the North Carolina side for next summer. If anybody has any pics of the site they stayed in while there it would be appricated. On another note we just returned from the rownaend area and stayed at Little river campground it is very tight on the spaces saw people campers so close that their a ning was touching the other campers roof and the sewer hookup was right at your picnic table way to close for me

Seems to me the creek sites are mostly for visiting RVs, while the Center section is more for the seasonal. Weโ€™ve enjoyed staying by the creek. I think last time, the site number was in the 50s.

Have you researched the area as to what you may want to see? Where you are at is well within day trips to Gatlinburg and Asheville. The Smoky Mountain National Park has hiking and plenty of waterfalls to see along with a mill and many log cabin homesteads. A must is Clingmans Dome although the observation tower is closing for renovation this week. Not sure how long it will be to reopen. Newfound Gap has a large parking lot and overlook worthy of a stop also.

Asheville has the Biltmore Estate that if you have never been its spectacular to see. Plan on spending the whole day there if you do. Its a pricey ticket though so if you are inclinded to see it buy in advance online for 10% savings. Look on their website.

The city of Waynesville is nice for just strolling and seeing what they have to offer. A couple nice restaurants there for a good lunch also. Maggie Valley has the Wheels Through Time muesum that has some cool old cars and motorcycles.

Cherokee has the Museum of the Cherokee Indian. Very interesting. Town itself if very touristy with trading post type stores. Harrah's operates a casino there too.

Stay there creekside every year. A fine park.

I live on the other side of the parkway from Waynesville, a nice little town. Maggie is an easy 20 minute ride but honestly not much there. Waynesville would be a better base.

We stayed at Pride last year... ok place. Several years ago we stayed at Stonebridge.... the fist couple of times it was OK, but then they changed ownership and it really went downhill. I understand there are again new owners, so may they have improved it. They had some nice creekside sites.

We stayed at Pride. They are Passport America so it's half price. . . . 2 nights only now, but good value.

Weโ€™ve stayed several times at Creekwood Farms and will again anytime weโ€™re in the area. Well-run place, scenic creek sites, very nice bathrooms, etc.

The nearby town of Waynesville is fun for strolling and has some nice restaurants and shops.

If you went on the other side of the mountain range in the Gatlinburg/Smokey Mtn Natl Park area they have a couple of nice waterfalls you can hike to. Also have several hiking trails... We always camp at ELKMONT camp that only has water available from a spigot outside each of the bath room buildings... When we camp at ELKMONT we always go to the Townsend town for supplies and groceries etc... Galtlinburg and Pigeon Forge is always a pretty hetic town with lots of traffic...

They do have a RV dump site at the entrance to the Smokey Natl Park.

Crossing the mtn from Cherokee might be abit much for the longer trailers. We don't have any problems doing the mtn road with our Popup trailer...

Creekwood Farms and Pride resort are right next to each other. Both are good clean parks with the creek running by some sites. Haven't been to any other parks in the area so can't offer an opinion on those.
