Membership campgrounds?

With any of the memberships, are you given a specific site number in advance, only when you arrive, or circle until you find a space where you fit? Does it differ depending on what membership or affiliation you have? Thanks!

I have found the TT membership is wonderful for family fun, gated, most fellow campers are respectful and responsible. But we all know there is the coveted buddy system , the folks know everybody and for the most part look out for each other. So far I have not had the use of a premium site. The rule here is go and find a site and report to guard shack for complete registration. WE have found arriving 2 days early for holidays is a must for a level spot and not overflow, which I happy to say we havent had to use. I only wish that we knew the TT system like our camp hosts, so when we are here or at other cg's we can take full advantage of what we paid for.

If they won't let me go pick my own site I just tell them I will take the very first site on the way in and have my DW back the trailer in. Tying up the entire campground for the next 3 hours!

They just motion me in and say go pick your site and come back! :B

Pretty much like any other CG.

Some assign, some let you pick, some take you around and let you pick, some give you a map, some just point out the door.

Personally I like point.......

I drove how ever many miles to get there, found the CG, found the office so I can also find a spot to camp in.

34 years a TT member, perhaps you can share all the loopholes that they dont tell us newer members about. We been members for bout 3 years, and just rescently upgraded to the basic elite, but I know there is more to the membership than what the contract says. So any and all help is appreciated.

We are KM members where you find a campsite and then report back to the office.

I agree 100% on the TT practice of non member and long term use. And while I have never had to use the over flow area myself, I don't care of Thousand Trails having that to fall back upon should they over book a Preserve.

Have you ever pulled into or maybe already parked and set up for the evening in the late afternoon and watched others trying to find a RV site when it's busy. Reminds me of finding a parking space at a shopping center on Black Friday. Only everyone is in really big, long vehicles....LOL!!!!

It depends upon the individual park. The park that I am in has 10 different site types, all based on site depth (or what size RV can fit). When you make a reservation the office staff will ask you for the length and type (MH, FW, TT, TC, Bus, van, tent) of your RV, and the number of slide outs. You will then be assigned a site based on that criteria. Guests can ask for certain sites and the staff does its best to accommodate. It is entirely possible that the site that was assigned at the time of the reservation may change - as site assignments may get reassigned to make the best use of the park.

At another park that I've gone to a lot, almost all of the sites are the same. It used to be "go pick a site then come back to the office and register". It changed to "stop at the office, register and be assigned a site". This happened because some RVers would come in and get a preferred site location and then squat in the 2 or 3 adjacent sites and hold them for their friends who were arriving later in the day. This caused complaints, and a change in policy.

With a Thousand Trails Membership your reservation simple reserves you a place to park for that period of time. It will not guarantee you a full hook up site, No guarantee of preferred or needed electrical service. They operate on a first come, first parked reservation system. Your reservation could if all sites are taken upon your arrival mean that you have a place to park in the overflow parking where there are no hookups at all.
Thousand Trails has also taken to the practice of long term site leases at many of their parks which cut down on the number of sights available to it's members who wish to use their membership for recreational camping.

Some assign you a space on arrival and an escort takes you to the site. I have seen people have the escort take them to the site on the golf cart and approve before going to the site

Most Thousand Trails parks will let you find your own, then report the site.
Most of the others that I belong to will work with you trying to find a site.
I like to find a satellite friendly site.
