Mid to South Florida ....Does this campground exist?

I am looking for my dream campground for dipping my toes into the snowbird lifestyle. Here is what I am looking for. Middle to South Florida (below the freeze line) for the 2014/2015 winter.

1. Affordable. I will only be able spend maybe 6 weeks of the winter actually at our RV in Florida. I would rather not spend huge amounts of money for a fancy place.
2. Family friendly. Not interested in a 55 and over resort. My wife and I are under 50 and our daughter is 12.
3. Pool
4. Big rig friendly and full hook up with 50amp.
5. Clean and safe is a must!

I don't think that what I am looking for should be all that hard to find but after spending hours searching on line it seems like most all the places that would work are all 55 and older.
Any ideas or recommendations? Thanks

Great to hear you have a site booked.

When and for how long will you be down there?

We will be dragging our 5th wheel down there on November 15th (before the 1st snow) and will leave it there till the end of April. We are planning on spending Thanksgiving week, Christmas to New Years and spring break there as well as some long weekends a couple of times a month. Crossing my fingers this go as planned.

Wilderness RV Resort, will fit what you are looking for. Its in ocala just down from silver springs. We went for 10 days and a forum member suggested it to me. It was great. I would live their if I could.

I wanted to update this thread. The winter of 2014/2015 did not happen for us but we reserved a site at Wilderness for winter of 2015/2016 as recommended by jayco302. It looks like a wonderful resort and a good deal. For the first time in forever I can say "COME ON WINTER"!!!!

Thanks everyone. We are going down in November to have a look around. It looks like we may hold off until next winter to commit to a campground until we have had a chance to visit a few first. Lots of great tips!! Thanks again.

Located 4 mile east of exit 170, Port Charlotte. Families are welcome and expected. During the snowbird season there are always children visiting their grandparents, etc. Many activities for everyone.

Sun N Fun comes to mind. Wifi is okay there. They have lots of pool activities for extra fees and it can add up quickly. Recommend the wibit at least once.

Ha Ha Ha.....yeah, but that snowy and cold Ohio still has 13 year old boys around....and plenty of girlfriends to hang with. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Do your best to find an RV park with the following:
  • Wifi
  • Gulf Shore beach nearby
  • major mall nearby
  • Movie Theater nearby

And then be prepared to make daily excursions out of the park to those places and maybe, just maybe, you might keep her satisfied for a few days. :B

We raised two daughters (now young adults) and I know for sure when they were teenagers neither one of them would have wanted any part of staying at your average Florida RV park in the winter. They would have rolled their eyes at me and said "Daaaaaaaad, every one here is old". ๐Ÿ˜‰

Give them the choice of spending a couple weeks in the average Florida RV Park OR spending a couple more weeks in cloudy, cold and snowy Ohio. :B I am not giving up!!...lol

Of the three RV parks we stayed at last winter we didn't see any families like yours, other than during spring break time.

We did see occasional visits by camper's grandchildren but it appeared to be only for a weekend and they were few and far between.

Are you expecting to see lots of families such as yours at these RV parks?
All the RV parks we have either visited or stayed at in Florida over the winter (other than during spring break) are about 99% inhabited by snowbirds....who are 55 and older, and these places aren't advertised as "55 and over parks".

It would be nice to see families like ours. Even though my daughter will only spend a couple of weeks total at the camper it would be nice if she could find some other kids to to get to know and to be able to hang out with.
