We are planning a trip to the North Rim next year and was wanting some suggestions on good sites. We will be in a 35' motorhome towing a jeep. Thanks for all help.

The North rim of the Grand Canyon in a wonderful place.
Even before the park opens camping right on the rim and all alone is possible for the right rig.

Hi there,
this past spring the North Rim opened on May 15th, hope it opens earlier this year. I was there in July and here is my walk-through. I'll be back in September.

sounds like you haven't been to many National Parks.
very few of them have any kind of hookups.

as big as Yellowstone NP is, only one of their many campgrounds has any hookups, Fishing Bridge.
Yosemite NP has no hookups at all, in any of their campgrounds.
Sequoia NP also has no hookups in any of their campgrounds.

the reasons are various. environmental could be in some parks but it could be cost, remoteness or other reasons.
remember, campers requiring hookups is a relatively recent development in the history of the National Parks.

I think that in years past(before "Global Climate Change")the North Rim was closed from mid or late October to Mid or late May and even into June. The last time we drove by there was in June and the road was closed. Not as much use as Mather and TV on South Rim, so not the development. Please keep this area's beauty quiet, more room for us. (That was a Joke.)

Since you are taking the toad leave the MOHO at Jacob Lake CG, dry camping but a really nice CG. The North Rim is alot of extra fuel from there.

Search over on the truck camper forum for a lot of trip reports (with pix) made by the hearty TC bunch re: North Rim. There are some very good travelogs in several seasons to the N.R. G.C. some needing 4WD, which you already have. At 7000 feet the North Rim snow season starts early.

Watching the sun come up at the North Rim is awesome.
If you drive into the park before dawn, stay alert. Not far inside the park entrance is a meadow where the "beefalo" (see page 22 of the link) are often standing in the road in the pre-dawn blackness.

If you do stay at the NPS campground, there's a nice camp store with little sitting areas both inside and outside for free wifi. Also a laundry setup nearby.

Wherever you stay, be sure to go into the lodge. We had dinner there at a reasonable cost, and the whole place sits at the edge of the canyon with excellent views. You can sit facing the canyon on the sun terrace, where there are also some ranger talks held.

Maybe because it's off the beaten path a bit, that part of the park felt less commercial to me, more the way NPs were when I was a kid. (A long time ago.)

Pretty simple. They built the CGs before they dug the Grand Canyon. As you can imagine, they didn't attract much business, so they couldn't afford FHUs. :B

I do not know for sure, but you are 50 miles plus from "civilization"

Photo of my 32 foot TT. Lots of room, I do not remember the site.
Please give me enough troubles, uncertainty, problems, obstacles and STRESS so that I do not become arrogant, proud, and smug in my own abilities, and enough blessings and good times that I realize that someone else is in charge of my life.

Two years ago we stayed at Kanab, Utah at the Kanab RV Corral while we visited the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. It's a beautiful drive from there to the North Rim, about 50 miles if I remember correctly. We were very impressed with the facilities and the very clean restrooms/bath house. If you need hookups, especially in the hot summer, it's a very nice spot to stay. They have a nice web site with beautiful pictures of all the parks within 100 mile radius of their campground.
