Park recommendations Maggie Vally? Banner Elk? Anywhere?

We are looking to get away this summer 4-6 weeks. Just go somewhere cooler and park by a stream or lake and relax.

Hey Big, come stay at our base camp in Hickory NC. Indian Springs CG. We're in the foothills, not on the mountain, but Asheville, Boone etc., are all near by.

Plus, I'd finally get to meet you after all these years here. If we're here...hope to be on the road a lot.

I'll second Creekwood Farms. One of our favorite places to stay, especially when backed into a creek site. Awesome motorcycle museum in town,too.

We liked Creekwood Farm RV in Waynesville, NC, stayed there twice. Sites by the creek are really nice, and I liked the atmosphere. Close to entrance to the national park and to Maggie Valley. The little town of Waynesville is fun to visit, too.

We've been to Maggie Valley several times over the past few years. We had stayed at Stone Bridge a few times and were OK with it, especially if you had a creek side site. But, they really went downhill a few years ago and the last time we were there, the place was a mess. I understand, per various reviews that they have new owners and are improving, but when we did a drive by last summer, it still looked a more than a bit disheveled. Last year we stayed at Pride RV for a week or so. Nice place and they do have creek side sites. We did not have one, but all the sites are pretty large. You do park on the grass/gravel, as yo do at Stone Bridge.
The weather is pretty good, especially compared to Fl. in the summer. If you do go there, the Wheels tru Time Museum is worth a stop. Not sure what you are looking for, but we really enjoyed Mountain Falls RV Resort at Lake Toxaway. It's at about the same altitude as Maggie Valley and is a first class resort. It's about 60 miles from Maggie.

Looking at historical data, the average temp in the summer is in the low 70's.

Compared to Florida, that is cool enough for me.

You won't find anything much cooler until you get to the northern tier of states (Vermont, MI, Montana, Washington State) and even then it's a roll of the dice. Try Canada.
