Quartzsite - Favorite BLM Area and Why?

Which BLM area do you prefer to boondock on when you visit Quartzsite and why?

I always found Hi Jolly to be way overcrowded and Plomosa Rd little better. I prefer Scadden Wash due to its proximity to the big tent show and vendors south of the I-10, but it does get crowded the closer you get to town. The views from Dome Rock, however, seem to be the best with the boondocking spots spread out better than the other areas. Roadrunner doesn't seem to be used as much as the other areas and because of that I like it better than those north of the interstate. Never stayed at the LTVA, so I can't comment on that.

Hmmmm ... we go to Quartzite for the rocks, the bakery, and the fantastic Pow Wow cafeteria meals. The Pow-Wow's drycamp parking lot is clean and dust-free, only $5/night, isn't crowded at all, and has a free shuttle that runs all day long to transport you a few feet from your camping spot right to a few feet from the Pow Wow main area. Generators are allowed and we hear almost none - except for the low humming of ours occasionally. It couldn't be better.

I wonder why folks camp out in the desert around town so they have to drive in to everything? When we boondock out in the desert it isn't near anything social, including small towns - if we can help it.

Regarding Plomosa, is it "farther" or "further"? After all, 5.2 miles isn't that far, even if you're walking.

Either way my choice is Plomosa, and further.

Been to Plomosa 2x time now. Much less dust, much less dirt, much less sand, much less crowds, and much less noise. Campers very considerate, no quads or razors or ATV's out that ways, noise from 95 non existent, noise of people in diesel pushers going to and from Bouse is manageable, usually starts up around 8 to 8:30 am -10:15, people running in to town, or tents for breakfast or shopping.

Only noise I ever hear is the faint sound of a Honda Generator or two, perhaps running until 10 or 11pm at night, 150 to 200 yds away, while some folks watch TV on their sat dish. That, and sometimes, a sh*tload of yodel dogs go sounding off in the middle of the night with their serenade.

Not for everyone, more for social lites, as in light socializing.

But then, I am old, cranky, and set in my ways. Great place to play with your newly bought laser at night, also, or rig up and test out those super value laden ON SALE price solar panels you bought in Q with your whole monthly IRA withdrawal check. Q < Value < $ per watt.

Plomosa is nice but farther from town.

X2. I do try to be careful to not be too near a road, and especially the dusty side! The Q can get real dirty.

I too don't like noise, and would not be in Scadden.
Go North Oldman ..

Plomosa is way less dusty, and only Plomosa Rd. noise. Zero from 95 once you move away from the corner

I actually prefer being over the hill near Bouse, but if we have to stay at Q we like Plamosa Road best then Roadrunner. We always end up at the extreme edges to try and get away from the crowd as much as possible, and the transfer station is close up north.

Plomosa ๐Ÿ™‚ Sure is quiet out there.

Scadden has the freeway noise. We stayed there two times, and I just couldn't deal with the constant hummmmmmmmmm gggrrrrrowllll (semi's) lol I was told that further back works, haven't tried that. Sure was awesome to be close to town though. Wish I wasn't so sensitive to noise.

I agree. The freeway noise is pretty bad towards the front but hardly noticeable the further back you get. However, the washes to get further back can be a turn off for those with big rigs.

First timer so I can't compare. La Posa West east of Yuma road and a stones throw from the tent (100yards) Did hear and see the traffic All the others were to far for the DW to walk, I think. No toad.

Only been to Scadden to visit. All I can compare it to is Plomosa.

- It's dustier
- More trash floating around .. And that's attributed to the huge crowd I'm sure
- Personally I like the landscape on Plomosa better
- That also seems to be where allot of the rally's are, probably because of the open spaces.

Just because of the layout you can go for a walk in the desert and be out of the RV crowd on 1-2 minutes. Places in Scadden is a 10 min walk or more

I like LaPosa west......back by Old Yuma Road....... We were on the east side of OY road last year and it got dusty as all get-out with ATVers going by. Noticed this year that the wind blew west to east. Maybe we'll try camping on the west side next year. ๐Ÿ™‚
