Savannah GA?

The wife and I are planning a stop over in Savannah GA on our way to FL this winter. We will only be staying 2 nights-Coming down 75 from a Sweetwater TN stop-over through Macon GA down 16. Looking for a nice easy on, easy off campground in that area. 34 ft RV hauling a 20 Ft car hauler so I need a somewhat larger spot. Wife wants to see some of the sights in and around Savannah so we will be there about 2 days.

If you have a suggestion I would appreciate it. Full hook ups not required, some electricity and water maybe all we need, we are self contained for short stays no problem.

Mostly looking for a nice safe place to park our rig and things will be safe while we are exploring.

Thanks

Another vote for Hardeeville Campground. It is a Passport America park with few restrictions and is just a short drive to the Visitor's Center in Savannah. Must be self contained to stay there though as they have a laundry but no bath house.

Savannah Oaks is close to downtown Savannah and about thirty minutes from Tybee Island. Large sites and very clean. Mrs Wilks boarding house(check the hours I think they close for a month either January or February) has a great food and a must visit. Bonaventure Cemetary is also something to put on your list.

We really enjoyed fort Mcallister, the sites are big and very wooded. The fort is a nice few hours of sightseeing as well... BUT, if you will be traveling into savannah more than once, try skid away. Mcallister is about 40 minutes from the CG, longer than I anticipated.

Thanks, I was checking those out. Do I need an advance reservation end of Feb?

Gas, we like to stay in Hardeeville also, but at Hardeeville-Thomas C/G..has really big sites..long..nice campground is maybe 10 minutes to the waterfront in Savannah.....is off exit 5 then down rt17....
take 17 right into the waterfront
when there, if you would like a great southern restaurant...similar to Paula Dean's...but we think much better...is Mrs Wilkes....only open Mon to Fri from 11 am to 2 pm...done family style....Another favorite is the Olympia on the waterfront

Check out the trolley system in Savannah. Can get pass that allows you to get on and off at the places on the tour. All you do is get off and walk around the area then when ready get back on the trolley and continue to the next historic stop. We have done it twice and worked real well. If you do, keep your passes and if you go to St Augustine and show the trolley there your stubs, you will get a discount. Also, while in Savannah if you have time, check out the Crab Shack. It is on the way to Tybee Island on the right side. Good Food. Have fun and a safe Merry Christmas.

We are currently staying at Camp Lake Jasper RV Resort in Hardeeville, South Carolina as we visit Savannah, GA. Camp Lake Jasper is a Good Sam resort, very quiet, off of exit 8 of I-95 in SC. Savanna is less than 30 minutes away, an easy drive on Route 17 over the big bridge into Savannah.

Clean, quiet, with level sites, and NEW. They tell me that they just opened in May. We went over to Tybee Island in our toad, and decided to stay put here in Hardeeville. Way less crowded, clean and friendly. Check it out. We're happy here. I expect we'll be back as we travel up and down I-95 from NY to FL.

Fort Mcalisster and Skidaway Island State Parks are both nice with large sites.

Skidaway is much closer to downtown Savannah and it has some amazing new full hook up sites. Probably 120 feet long, level and just redone. Lots of spanish moss hanging from the trees in both parks.
