Skidaway or James Island?

We have a 33 foot class A motorhome. Looking for a spot for a week in midMarch. We do not tow a car. We like to bike and kayak and a little site-seeing (we could rent a car for a few days). Have narrowed it down to Skidaway Island or James Island County Park. Can anyone who has been to both make a recommendation?

I like both but based on your interests, the facilities and location of James Island is a better fit.

Love to bike ride at James Island. They have an absolutely wonderful dog park, too, if you have a furkid. I've been there in October for the last 2 years. Great place.

I was at James Island and the shuttle was free. It leaves the camp store I believe at 10 and has a pickup point in Charleston at around 3. It was free. We didn't go to Folly but that's just another reason to return. Great CG, great people easy in-out of Charleston.

I think St. James would be the most accommodating without a tow! Skid away and Savannah are great as well.

James Island has a pier inside the park on a tidal creek that you can kayak on. The tidal creek is big with access even at low tide. From there you can paddle only a short way out and be on the Stono River. Would be a long ways, but if you timed the tide right, you could go as far as the ocean and up behind Folly Beach.

The shuttle I believe is $10 each for round trip. You can take it either to downtown visitor center where another shuttle will take you to various parts of the pennisula, the convention center which is only a few blocks from the market, or Folly Beach.

They also have a climbing wall, disc golf course, dog run area with beach, and among other things.

It is only 20 miles from my house, but when we had kids, we would spend a few nights there, even if it meant I had to commute cross town.

You're question sounds like: should we go to Savannah or Charleston?

Comparing parks/cities that are 2 hours apart is not apples to apples.

But if you want to go to Savannah, Skidaway is an awesome place.

Never been to James Island.. but it's on my short list now after reading this thread. We've been to Skidaway and really enjoyed it. We've been to Charleston and Savannah, and prefer Savannah by a pretty fair margin.

But Im sure I will find my way up to James Island.

Been to both and love 'em both. But from what you say you want to do I'd go with James Island.

Agree with fla-gypsy, both are nice but if I had 1 week and had to pick between the 2, it'd be James Island.
