Snowbird golf green fees

I'm a bit sticker shocked at the price of golf in Arizona during high season. $50 for a very average course. $70-80 for a bit better. I do know that that is the norm in certain parts of the US anyway. I'm spoiled back home in the midwest US.

What prices do you see in Florida now?
How about the RGV?
Please characterize the course, as in goat track, average, higher end. Thanks!

Golf Prices in Palm Springs. Having lived in the area for the pass 7 winters there are plenty of courses under $50.00, now they aren't the high end courses but they are a challenge. Go to golf now and you can get a deal. There are also municipal courses you can check out. We play an executive course that will make you use all the clubs in your bag with a cart for $35.00 Date Palm Country Club. And if you want to play a killer par three Palm Royale Country Club. Good Luck

I'm in Central Florida and have played three rounds a week travelling no further than an hour's drive to any of them and have yet to pay $50.

Just played Brookeville for $35
Have played Lake Bernadette, Mystic dunes, Champions Gate, Legends, Rio Pinar, Babe Zaharias, Mission Hills, Eaglebrook, Diamond Hill, Wedgewood among a host of others and have yet to pay anywhere near $50.

Assign one member of your foursome to cruise the various tee time bookings sites like "golf now" etc.,and grab the bargains offered using his credit card. you reimburse him for your share he gets the additional airmiles and all are happy.

Even clubs like Bella Callina offer specials on those web sites that can see you play a premiere course of 18 with lunch and one beer included for under $50.

One other consideration; you do not need fear taking a divot in Florida nor arriving in a bunker due to the "pit-run" as Florida courses actually have some soft stuff under that layer of grass on the fairways other than gravel and the traps/bunkers usually have real, actual sand instead of that aforementioned stuff we would call "pit-run" (the stuff left over after crushing gravel to it's various sizes) anywhere else in North America.

I ruined at least two sets of clubs by playing Arizona courses over the span of a few years of wintering there.
Today is just the tomorrow you worried about yesterday!

In SW Fla. a hacker type course is $60. But they overbook the tee times so badly you get to be on the course for 8 hours. ๐Ÿ™‚

I'm in central Florida and the snowbird league plays a course for $28.50 and there is another course for $20 and $16 after 12 noon. If I were say 3 handicapper I may notice the difference but when you're an 18 you don't really notice. Look in your bag, if you have one of those ball things to dig balls out of the water then the $20 course is good enough. That way you will have some money left to buy some balls.

Another data point. Queen Valley GC in Queen Valley. 4467 yards par 69, $46 for 18 holes with cart. That's crazy.

A friend here at Martin Valley Ranches in Mission, Texas, (Rio Grande Valley) lives year round down here. He just mentioned he signed up for a year for $1350 and that includes as many rounds as he wants to play all year long. It's the course associated with the Martin parks. Actually it is now owned by someone else, but that was the deal he got.

I don't golf but after hearing what people were saying they were paying, I think that would be pretty reasonable. I don't know if that included a cart. . . he has his own anyway. I don't know anything about the course other that it looks very nice. ๐Ÿ™‚ But it is a very popular course and they have a restaurant and pro shop. I think they host tournaments from time to time. I don't see a website, but they have a FB page. Howling Trails.

Tom, you're right but I was talking about the time involved with all 3. Even retired you can't do justice to them all.

Our park in FL has a league and we pay $26.50/18 holes with cart. It's a nice course. This is about the same as back in Michigan during the summer.

Well, my hope would be to start long term snowbirding, and to play golf OFTEN. At $100 a day, that's serious money.

I tell my friends when they start complaining about prices, "You can do anything you want, just maybe not "everything"". Many of us have more money than time left anyway, so why not enjoy it?

While the smaller towns will have less expensive golf they also don't have the same quality of golf as the larger areas.

Doesn't that make it more challenging? ๐Ÿ™‚

Today we played Longbow in Mesa. We got some sort of special at $85. On Golfnow.com the same times were showing $122 plus tax. Nice course, but with tipping, candy bar, iced tea, a couple lost balls, it's a hundred bucks.
