Campground (NOT 'Resort') near Scottsdale AZ please

Hi folks! I need a place to stay in or around Scottsdale AZ next Presidents Day Weekend.

We have a small hybrid (expandable) trailer. Our ideal campground has full hookups, trees and decent-sized sites. Need showers too.

We don't need "resort" amenities and are hoping to not have to pay snowbird resort fees. Just looking for a quiet place to stay for 3 or 4 nights for the horse show.

Can anyone recommend a place? Thanks for your help!

Thank you everybody! I scouted out McDowell Mountain Park and we have reservations there for the horse show. See you on the road soon.

The Maricopa County parks are the very best for the greater Phoenix area. They have lush huge sites, hiking trails, showers, dump station, water fill and a few even have trees and full hookups. We've stayed at all of them. Favorites are McDowell Mountain, Usery, Cave Creek and Lake Pleasant.

Lost Dutchman State Park in Apache Junction is also wonderful but might be too far for you depending on what you want to do in Scottsdale.

Staying in any of these you would not know that you're in the Phoenix area because of the surrounding natural space. You'll need reservations ASAP as this is prime flower season in the parks.

Agree totally (personally did not care that much for Lake Pleasant)
Note if you have dogs Cholla cactus is extremely nasty the spines can be carried by the wind and that is the reason its nickname is the jumping cactus.

McDowell Mountain and Cave Creek have the least Lost Dutchman the most and Usery is about half way between.
Cholla spines are extremely hard to totally remove from a dogs pad and they then can work there way up to the top of the dogs paw causing some nasty sores.

we just stayed at Westworld- IN Scottsdale. Not a resort but has water and electric hookup, and a dump station. $28 a night. They have almost 400 sites.

McDowell Mountain park or Usery Pass are both excellent state parks. Both have electric and water but no sewer hookup (dump station available). They're large sites in a natural desert landscape. Must book early as spots fill up during fall and winter.

Note: These parks are owned and operated by Maricopa County.

And if you can't get a site at one of the Maricopa Co. parks. ask if you can stay in the overflow area. You can still use showers etc. if it's only for a few days. Or they may move you to a site that some one cancelled.

McDowell Mtn or Cave Creek. I like the latter a little better but they are both great. So you have to go to the dump station. ๐Ÿ™‚
Currently RV-less but not done yet.

Another option and a bit closer to Scottsdale than McDowell Mountain Park is Eagle View. BTW, while Eagle View may call themselves a resort, IMO it's not. While McDowell Mountain does not have full hookups, it would be my first choice.

McDowell Mountain Regional Park in Fountain Hills. Electric and water. Dump station. Clean showers and bathrooms. Huge campsites. Great hiking, mountain biking and big views in a very uncrowded desert setting. It is about a far from an RV resort as you can get. About 30 minutes from downtown Scottsdale. Check it out on rvparkreviews.com

You can make your reservations six months out and suggest you do because it is full in peak winter season.

I am not aware of any RV parks like what you describe in the Scottsdale area. Look in surrounding areas that will provide you with easy, min. traffic cluster back ups. Most RVers call Scottsdale "Snotsdale" home of the rich:)

When we were visiting my husband's aunt in Scottsdale, we stayed at Usery Mountain Regional Park, which is exactly what you want, except it is not in Scottsdale, but we found it an easy drive. It was lovely! It is east. There was another regional part a bit more north east. Check out Maricopa County Parks.
