ST LOUIS TRIP

Thanks to all for your suggestions for things to do in St Louis. We stayed at Casino Queen and it is a safe, convenient place to stay at a good price. Lots of security so no safety issues. We visited the zoo and the only negatives were all the people paying for parking with credit cards which really made a mess of traffic and there were lots of rude children that would actually shove us out of the way to get to what they wanted. We did not let that bother us and enjoyed a beautiful day at the zoo. We toured the Arch, took in a Cardinals game, and the best spent money was a tour of Busch Stadium. We ate at Highway 61 Roadhouse that was featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives and the food was mediocre so don't waste your money going there. We rode the Metro Link from the Casino into the city and it was easy to use. Unfortunately we had several days of heavy rain which impacted our site seeing. We hope to go back some time in the future to see so e of the things we missed. Thanks for all the tips.

Never stayed at Casino Queen they were always closed in Sept. But have stayed in St Louis RV PK, only one in St Louis 21 blocks from down town. Not in the best part of town but never felt threatened there. There is one in Cahokia IL just across the river. Not in the best part of town either be never felt threateded there either, and the steak house next door is very good. It is about 5 min from down town St Louis. About 20 min out of town SouthWest of St Louis in Fenton there is a place called Covered Bridge. When in the St Louis area I will stay at Covered Bridge.

If I had to guess ... you talked to someone that was either new or only worked in the casino part and not the RV part or maybe both? But rest assured, they do allow kids in the RV park but only the RV park.

Really??? I called (2 months ago) and they told me no kids in either the campground or the casino (obviously). I spoke directly to the front desk at the casino and they said sorry no kids on the grounds! I re-planned my vacation based on what they told me. Grrrrr. I asked based on another forum that had grandkids and were not allowed to stay at the campground.

There were kids in the campground while we were there using the playground equipment.

If you get back to St. Louis forget the 61 Roadhouse and cross the MO river to Alton and take in Fast Eddies Bon air.

Great, very cheap bar food (they make their money on drinks) and interesting history of the place.

I just (as in at 3:20pm on 5/10/2013) made reservations at the RV park for later this August. They asked how many adults and kids. If you look at a Google satellite image of the RV park, it shows a small playground (in fact she got a site for us right across from it). She did say kids were not allowed in the casino (duh!) and that included the restaurant since it's behind the "ropes" ... or something like that. But, kids ARE allowed at the RV park.

Wow, I wasn't aware of that either. We've parked there many times to ride the train across. Had no idea kids weren't allowed in the campground.

Just remember it's for adults only. I nearly made the mistake of stopping there for an overnight while on a summer vacation. I'm glad I checked b/c they don't even let kids in the campground. I thought maybe it would be OK for the CG only (and DH could get some take-out from the casino). NO kids period in CG or the attached restaurant.

We are not casino people so we were unaware of this rule.
