We are heading to this next weekend and was wondering what to expect. Could not find many reviews on the internet. We've got a 22' Class C so size is no issue, just wondering about the campground etc. Thanks!

We stayed there a few years ago and thought it was a very nice campground. I always recommend it to anyone going to that area. Lots of great hiking in the area. Dolly sods is one of my favorite places and Otter Creek is very close to the campground. Let us know how it goes. Like I said we were there a years ago and are wanting to go back to that area.

Stuart turned out to be a very nice quiet campground. 25 sites or so with ample space/bushes in between for privacy. It's small, electric at sites for 30A, water available at park locations but not at each site. You can see where they must have had some severe storm damage but have managed to clean it up nicely. Double walled fire pits, with grates, picnic table, lantern stand etc.

Quiet times were just that, very quiet. We didn't have a fire since it was extremely hot during the day, and the fact that the baseball game was on the following night on XM.

Didn't check out the bath house so can't report on that. The Camp hosts were friendly enough, and they cruised through making sure everything was as it should be. Mostly 5th wheels and a couple of Class C's, some sites looked too small for a lot of Class A's.

Cell Service spotty, no WiFi, a great electronic downtime weekend. Elkins WV about 5 miles away with a variety of activities if you are so inclined. Nice older out of the way campground, just the way I like them.

Next trip will probably be Senaca Shadows, they seem to be comparable. We drove through SS on the return trip to check it out. Worst part of the weekend was chasing/being chased by the thunderstorms, almost 4 solid hours of light and heavy rain etc. But well worth the time to get away.

Shavers Fork of the Cheat River has "flexed its muscles" several times over the years. I hope to have some more flattering pictures to share after our trip.

We have survived in out trailer through snow, a nearby tornado with its windstorm, and a direct hit from a derecho over the years....but a flood is something I never want to mess with.

Please let us know how your stay at the CG goes. Have you been to that part of the state before (familiar with Seneca Rocks, Smoke Hole, Dolly Sods, etc..)? If not, there are some must-see areas within a short driving distance of the CG.

We will be there in two weeks! Have you been there before? The park has been hit hard by the storms over the last year....LOTS of tree damage. I talked to the CG manager a couple of days ago, and she said everything is pretty much back to normal now. Her name is Sandy, and you can reach her at 304-636-5070. It is a beautiful area....have fun!

I've traveled through Elkins, WV several times, but never stopped at Stuart Rec. Area. If you haven't already, you can find a few pics of the area here. About 6 or 7 miles east of Elkins, it should be peaceful. The "geezer" pass will save ya 50% off camping fees. Good luck, drive safe and enjoy.
