Tybee Island or Skidaway Island, GA?

Hi. We've been to Skidaway some years ago and really liked it, but would prefer to be closer to the beach. Thinking sometime early March. Has anyone been to the RV park on Tybee Island and what do you think of it? We normally head to the Keys, but this year could not. Still need to escape from Virginia for a few weeks.

Try Red Gate Farms. Closest you'll get to downtown Savannah, easy ride to Tybee if you need to. Easy in and out from 95. Savannah Oaks is a dump. Much better choices in the area. Disclaimer, I live in the Savannah Area.

Our sentiments, exactly. Stayed there in 2012 and LOVED it!

Hunting Island State Park in SC may be an option. Nice beach.

Thanks everyone for your replies. We do love Huntington Beach State Park and have been there numerous times. We are headed to Murrell's Inlet mid April and stay in a townhouse, versus the fifth wheel, so don't want to go there. I think it is Skidaway and return trip we will stop and stay in Charleston at the Mt. Pleasant KOA. I do miss not being in the Keys this winter, although their weather is not all that great this year.

Shh, don't take up all the sites at Skidaway, I may want to get away for the weekend.

If you want nice and on the beach, check out Huntington Beach SP in SC. Quiet, easy to get to the beach, lots to do just up the road in Myrtle Beach yet close enough to visit Georgetown or Charleston for the day. Then there is Brookgreen Gardens just across the road where the ticket is good for seven days. Temps are within 5* of Savannah yet will save you almost 200 miles of driving.

Savannah Oaks is a nice place to stay, just to sleep. I think Skidaway may be the answer to have a peaceful setting to return after beach or Savannah touring. Many thanks for all of your replies.

We love Skidaway. We looked at the place on Tybee and decided it wouldn't be for us. But honestly, Skidaway and Tybee have two different purposes. Solitude vs active.

We stayed at Savannah Oaks last time. They don't have great reviews, but we loved it. It was clean, spacious sites, easy access, not crowded (we go in February, so take that with a grain of salt), decent prices and easy access to the city. Its a hike to the ocean from there, just FYI.

Thanks for the quick reply. Yes, we thought the campground might be good to get to the beach some. We rarely hang out at the campgrounds although in the Keys it is different. Gosh, I miss going to the Keys. We may just stay at Skidaway or the campground just west of I-95, which is a nice place to sleep.

I've been there, I assume you mean Rivers End Campground. Its very tight, sandy if I remember. Not a GREAT campground, but not horrible. Nice bike ride to the lighthouse, easy access to downtown Savannah... most importantly is easy access to THE BREAKFAST CLUB!!!

When we go to Savannah, we just use the campground as a "base camp" and spend all our time in the city. If that is what you plan to do as well, Rivers End is fine. If you like to stretch out and spend time at the campground then I don't think you will be happy there.
