I like Copper Mountain State Park at farthes point north. MC Clain State Park west of Houghton is nice. Nice State Park at Baraca. The locks are great. Nice park at Cedarvile east of St Ignaus. Traveling west a nice park at Gladstone.. Should not be mush traffic yet.

x2 on Aune Osborn! We camped there in a 34'TT so we know they have sites you'll fit in. Loved watching the freighters go by - RIGHT BY the campground, close enough you can almost touch them! (Correct spelling of the town: Sault Ste Marie. Still pronounced "Soo Saint Marie.")

I'd recommend the boat tour through the Soo Locks, and there's a retired Lakes freighter in town that's been turned into a museum. Worth the visit.

State parks are likely to be full on weekends, but you may find a stray open site or two during the week.

Don't miss Mackinac Island (correct spelling, pronunciation the same as for Mackinaw)! Camp on either the UP or the lower peninsula (why isn't it called the LP?) and take the ferry to the island for a day trip. Be aware that crossing the bridge over the Straits of Mackinac may be restricted for higher vehicles if it's windy.

and if the OP is in the Mackinaw area over Labor Day they may want to 'walk the bridge'. each Labor Day two of the four lanes on the bridge are closed to vehicular traffic and opened to pedestrians. I participated in that walk a few years back and had a ball!

We're going there later in June. My daughter loves that place. I have not been there yet.

I liked Furnace Bay NF CG, right on Lake Superior. Saw the Northern Lights one year while camping there. The lake is cold but clear.

Munising is in Alger county and there are more waterfalls in that county than any other place in Michigan. Mackinaw Island is a great visit. No motor vehicles allowed there, except their fire truck, but horse drawn taxis and coaches are always available. It is an 8.5 mile bike ride around the island.

I'd also recommend a visit to Sioux Ste. Marie, MI. there are two parks there both on the St. Mary's River (the river connects Lake Huron and Lake Superior). the one we use and recommend is the Aune Osborn RV Park. this is a city park run by Sioux Ste. Marie. generous paved sites with water/electric. reservations are strongly recommended. many sites will have a nice view of the river and the lake freighters making the transit to/from Lake Huron to/from Lake Superior. the Soo Locks are nearby and offers a close-up look at how they function.

if you go be sure to configure your cellphone for no roaming on calls and data. you'll avoid international charges from the Canadian sites across the river.

Just be sure to have fun. There are a plethora of places to stay in Michigan. Staying off Superior is always fun but again you have PLENTY of choices.
4 whopping cylinders on Toyota RV's. Talk about great getting good MPG. Also I have a very light foot on the pedal. I followed some MPG advice on Livingpress.com and I now get 22 MPG! Not bad for a home on wheels.

X2 on that! Also there a lot of waterfalls that you can hike to at Pictured Rocks.

We stay at OB Fuller county park just south of Escanaba. Very big rig friendly. Beautiful park, no full hook ups but water and elec. Right on Lake Michigan. We always get a site that has a lake view. Not much in that area that's touristy except for Fayette State Park which is a ghost town. We stay at Fuller because we have family in Escanaba. It's a little more than an hour from Munising.

There is so much in the Upper Michigan that I can not list it all.

Grand Marais has a very nice little city park, Right on the shore of Lake Superior.. but my favorite is Tahquamenon Falls State Park

However they may have a problem with large rigs.. There are also some private parks in the same neighborhood that may be better able to handle big rigs.

There is a county park right on the river in Houghton / Hancock with full hookup. See the copper mine while their and the old fort in Copper Harbor ( state parks in this area). Also lake in the clouds.

Mackinaw area is nice. There are a few is a campgrounds in the UP near it - one is Lakeshore Park Camground. There are also parks ( some state) near Pictured Rocks - do see this. Tahquamenon Falls state park ( do see the upper and lower falls) and other private ones.

Good luck trying to get into state parks this time of year ( booked). Best bet is to google for private ones.

Coming down into the LP very nice areas on the western shore. Petosky, charlevoix, Traverse city, all great places to stay.

Take a look at the casino's. A few have RV parks and make good base camps. Lot's to see and do in the UP, but you have to slow down to enjoy the area.
