It's one thing to drop a trailer for a few hours, it's quite another to drop a trailer for one or two days.

If you are going to be in an area for a day or two, find a good camp ground. That's what we did on our cross country trip in 2014. The only time we weren't in a camp ground is when we stopped over night at a Walmart just to get some sleep. And then, we never unhooked.

X4 on a CG. Pay for the whole hook up site. At least it will be there when you get back. AND have a place to sleep that night IN your RV. :C

Leaving it alone in a store parking lot? Well, I guess that would work, if you don't care about the contents and or the whole trailer being gone when you get back.

Be sure to draw up a contract saying if it's damaged or stolen, they are responsible for your loss. :h

x2. If this is about money I don't think this is the way to be saving it.

If an RV park is not expecting a full house you should be able to negotiate a fee for temporary storing your RV. Many RV parks have RV storage or overflow areas.

We have left our RV temporarily at (always with permission and sometimes a fee or donation):
RV Parks
Active Church parking lot during the week
Mom & Pop Grocery Store with a large mostly unused parking lot
Friend of a friend or relative's property
RV Repair Shop with large parking area or storage
Ranger Station
Fire Station

I always check into a Rv Park. At the least its a place to relax, if its too hot you have a pool, usualy gated with security and opportunity to dump the tanks.

Nearest Campground should work. And give you a place to sleep at night over getting a $$$ motel room for 1-2 days.

I would looking for big box hardware stores like Home Depot, Lowes and Menards. Ask customer service there. Park away from entrances and portion of lot far away.
If during week, check for large church lots.

I would guess any campground that has a opening will be happy to rent that spot to you. :S
