We just came back from our "Memorial Day" weekend trip (aka go somewhere the weekend after when it's less busy). This year we chose to go to Savannah, GA, and stay at Skidaway Island State Park. I read quite a few nice things about the park, but it surpassed all expectations by being a wonderful place to camp at while we toured a portion of the surrounding area.
The sites are bordering on insanity for how spacious they are. We had a FHU site that could easily have accommodated two RVs with vehicles. The campground was pleasant to walk around, and we went biking on one of the trails (our 6 yo conquered it with training wheels
๐ ). Even cooler was that the first night we were there a ranger came by with one of their bull snakes for the kids to pet and learn about.
We only were there for three nights, and it quickly became apparent that we should have spend more time there. I see us going back again many times over the years to come. It is probably one of the first "vacations" that I actually relaxed one :C
The cannon firing demonstration at Fort Pulaski was pretty cool
