Added basket shelves in tall closet

Lot of unused space in this back closet. Had a shelf at the very top and that was it. We used it for the garbage can and brooms and paper towels up top. These basket shelves really added useful storage. We keep dry goods in there now. I attached wooden supports to the walls, then used screws with large heads to secure the wire of the baskets to the strips of wood. Very secure.

GordonThree: Even if you are concerned about flimsy walls, you could still do similar. Put a bead of Liquid Nails on those support boards and then screw into the wall. It will never come off, even on thin paneling.

If the cabinet is lined with wall paper, score the wall paper right where those boards will attach. Then peal the wall paper off before using the Liquid Nails so it's gluing the wood to the panel, and not to the wall paper. This will make the shelf much stronger too.

Spot on there. What one might not be able to notice from the pictures is that the wire basket has a lip. It is this lip that is supporting the weight of the wire basket and the lip sits on that piece of wood. The large head screws make sure the basket lip remains on the wood.
