Anchors for wall

I may want to install the toilet paper holder on a wall next to the toilet. It is an interior wall and it basically appears to be hollow. What type of wall anchors should I use. Those butterfly style mollies require a good size hole so I do not think it is a good idea. What about the really small drywall anchors that are metal and pull back into a "+" when you tighten them.

We used them for hanging up a towel hook in the bathroom of the last trailer. We have had some triple digit weather and they held. My brackets for the TP holder does not have much of a base area...more of just a perimeter so I am not sure how good they will work. May give it a try though.

Do the Command Strips hold up to the heat? We live in Arizona, and I'm sure it gets really hot in the trailer when it's in storage.

I have had good luck with standard plastic anchors and a small amount of Gorilla glue. Just be careful not to use too much GG. I dab it on the anchor with a toothpick.

Thanks myredracer. I like these. My exploration tells me there is nothing in the wall...and I did look at everything. Not sure where my wife wants the TP holder yet.

I like using Oscar rivets for this sort of thing which are a special type of pop rivet for use in RVs. They have really good holding strength and don't require a large diameter "invasive" hole. They are 1" long and only need a small 3/16" dia. hole in a wall. Regular pop rivets won't work.

Yes, you need to be mindful of things that may be concealed within a wall cavity. I use a drill with a piece of tape wrapped around it as a depth gauge. If you use a depth gauge, you won't damage wires. But there can be plumbing vent pipes in a wall in a location you wouldn't expect so be very careful. With some investigation you may be able to confirm if there is a pipe in the wall or not. If there is something on the ceiling like a vent or skylight bezel, you can feel up in the ceiling for a pipe. You can see where the vent is on a roof, and I would expect it to drop straight down, but I'm not sure if they ever offset a pipe in a ceiling cavity. I could have drilled a 3/4" hole through a vent pipe once in our TT because the pipe wasn't where I expected it to be.

Good point. It is a wall with no lights, outlets or switches.

With anything that penetrates the wall, you have to be concerned with what's behind the wall. Running a screw into an electrical wire can have disastrous effects. Be careful.

Thanks for the input. I was thinking of the above two anchors but I was concerned the screw type wouldn't have much to bite into. I may try the top molly or the command strips...but I am open to suggestions.

These are the ones I use - 1"long.

I've used pop rivets to mount anything new in our class A. Both interior and exterior walls. They are very easy to use and hold tight.

They will hold considerable weight and are removable with no damage. We use them for coat hoots beside the door and those will hold heavy jackets.

Don't rule out the removable stick-on pieces that are for pictures. They work very well, and depending upon the size, can hold quite a bit of weight. This eliminates holes in the wall and possible puncture of electrical and/or water lines. We use them for almost anything we put on a wall.

Recently I added two more fire extinguishers, one under the sink and the other in the rear closet. With both, I used the stick-ons on each holder, with a small strip of velcro running down the side of the extinguisher near the bottom to keep it from moving during travel. Works great and is removable if needed.
