Bunk Bed Accessories

My Wife and I purchased a new Mesa Ridge 310BHS TT for ourselves and family. The TT has 2 bunks for sleeping.

My grandson claimed one for himself. But, he has never slept in a bunk bed and we are concerned he would not stay in it while sleeping.

To resolve this problem, I made a ladder to get into the bunk and a guard to keep him sleeping in the bunk. We will use the guard until we are satisfied he will stay in it without rolling off.

I went to Lowes and purchase(2) 1 X 3 X 6 and (1) 1 X 3 X 8, a 1" X 42" piece of aluminum and a 1 X 2 X 8.

The guard is made with the 1 X 2 in (2) 12", (1) 34", (1) 30" and (2) aluminum pieces each 16".

The ladder is made using the 1 X 3's with steps at 12" and the rails measured to fit the bunk.

The ladder and guard are put together using glue and dowels for the wood and each hook with 4 screws to attachรฉ the aluminum. I did add a strip of felt attached with 4 staples to protect the side of the bunk.

The cost of both the ladder and guard is about $25.00, including a pint of brown paint, which is a lot cheaper than $48+ that Camping World wants for a bunk ladder.

Attached are pics of the both the guard and ladder.

I just started thinking about building a ladder for our bunkroom.
As far as rails go, we just bought some on amazon. I was originally going to build some similar to yours, but the wife ordered from amazon, and I figured one less project.

Your bunkroom is the same configuration as ours. ๐Ÿ™‚

In Photobucket, copy the "Direct" link.
I paid the money for the aluminum ladder. Yours looks nicer. ๐Ÿ˜‰

I'm surprised the upper bunk does not have a built in guard rail and a ladder is not supplied.
