Bunk "ledge"

We have two young kids that will be sleeping on bunks in our TT. Has anyone made anything to stop them from rolling off in the night? Some thoughts I had were a wooden or PVC frame that would slide under the mattress to hold it in place.

This is exactly what we did on both the bunks in our old TT and the overhead bunk in our C.

I used a pickup truck tailgate net for our retractable bed over the cab. Fastened bottom to bunk with screws, used carabiners to hook it up top.

We use a bedrail from IKEA. We tried it's self-attaching clamp for a while but ultimately found it was better to just bolt it through the edge of the bed.

On boats it is common to have a rail to account for movement while asleep. Look at the interiors of some nice boats for ideas.

My aunt was sleeping on my Dad's large power boat and a large wake rocked her out of her bunk while asleep and she broke her collar bone.

Back when we owned our TrailCruiser hybrid which had Jack 'n Jill beds this was my solution.

I cut a piece of 1/8 inch Masonite board to size and simply slipped it in between the mattress and bed side rail. To use, my son would climb into bed and slide the rail forward to the position shown ... to exit, he'd simply slide the panel rearward out of the way.

We have had one of those for years and it works quite well. We moved it from house to camper. Our kids and now our grand kids have put it to use. It's light weight and easy to install and remove as mentioned above. Walmart and Amazon both sell them.

Do a search on Bunk Guard Rail. Various companies make exactly what you are looking for, a guard rail that slips under the mattress and then folds down for access in the morning. Also easy to DIY if you are inclined, browse through the images in the search I posted to get some ideas.
