Low point drain mod

This was a simple mod after the brainy trust here told me the size of the Pex lines-1/2inch

Easily replaced with 1/4 turn shut off valves. If you don't have or can't find one with a " male" end use "close union" to adapt it. Reuse the plugs from the old fittings in the other end of the valve to keep road dirt and mud-dauber wasps out of it.
Remove plug, open valve to drain for winter and flush for spring.
No need for wet sleeves anymore !

This was on a Coachman , not exactly a entry level unit.

You did a nice mod, but if I saw a RV that didn't have shutoff's from the factory I would wonder where else did the factory cheap out on. If the manufacturer is attempting to save $10 dollars there, then where else are they saving money where you can't see and could hurt you?

Could be a simple thing to look for at the RV shows. No shutoff, no sale.

Replace the plug in the end of the valve with an adapter for a garden hose and one can wash their camper/truck with HOT water !
Only use the cold water tap for dogs and kids though.

I think that was me. I did finish the mod but I haven't had time to take pictures and post. But you've inspired me enough just by mentioning you remembered it that next time the trailer is home I'll try to get it photographed and posted.

LOL that's the same plug we have on our hybrid
Don't have any idea what the idea was but those push in plugs that come with hydraulic valves/hoses/parts to keep them clean are available for free at most farm stores/hydraulic repair and supply shops.

Why bother with valves if you are going to cap them;)
I have done this too w/o Caps

As stated I have found it best to cap the valves to keep out road grime and mud dauber wasps.
The cap need only be hand tight as it is not sealing water pressure but acts only as a cover.
Good Luck, Mike

I put valves on mine right after I got my 5ver and found out how hard it was to drain with the original plugs.

My Coachman came as shown in the first pic with no shutoffs, one simply relieves the pressure by opening a faucet then remove the plug.
Cheap but effective I guess .
I believe this mod to be an improvement .

Nice mod.

My low point drain shutoffs are inside the camper and were built that way at the factory.

Someone with no plumbing experience can take the pics on a smartphone to any hardware store and show the clerk and get the right parts.
$10.00 or so to save wet sleeves in the cold fall and chilly spring was a good deal to me ๐Ÿ™‚
