Outside Television Mount

I want to install a TV mount on the outside of my RV right above my stereo compartment. I have a coaxial, electric outlet and stereo hook up in that compartment. I don't think there is any wood studs to mount it to. Since its behind my kitchen cabinets I was going to put a 3/4" backing of plywood from the inside and screw into that. I plan on powder coating white and either using putty tape and/or caulk to keep it waterproof.

My question is this, would it be sufficient to hold a 32" TV in place only when stationary? I would obviously take the TV down while traveling. What are you thoughts? How would you do this job?

Thanks in advance for your advice

We were happy to see that our class c came with an outside bay with tv hookups. We had a 19"tv (I think is the size) that we had in the bedroom of our TT that we kept. I bought an extendable mount at camping world and they installed it for me for $39. Used it this weekend. Works great. Locks in place in the back of the bay while in motion. Don't think much bigger of a tv would fit there. But the size is fine for the two or three of us watching it. You pull it out towards the opening of the bay. It stops just flush of the opening with maybe an inch or so on each side.

I ended up scratching the idea. Im just going to use a table for now. We are thinking of selling the MH and buying a Fifth wheel Toy hauler so Im going to hold on the upgrades till we decide what we're doing.

I installed this mount on the outside of my camper. TV MOUNT Its a lot smaller and less noticeable than the one you were thinking about. It holds my 32" Vizio just fine, which weighs less than 20lbs. without the stand. The mount is good for up to 66 lbs.

I like the homemade mount I saw on another forum. It connects to the bracket where an outside stove would be attached.

I tried upload a picture here - no success. I will have to see what I need to do to upload the photograph.

Here is a try of uploading the photograph.

I am not at all offended. I appreciate all the suggestions. Sometimes I feel as if typing and texting can be taken out of context and at times you cant tell wether or not someone is being condescending or rude. Im sorry if you read any of my post that way.

WIth that said I think Im going to hold off and take the suggestion of just keeping it on a table for now.

Thanks again for your response

I keep mine on a table and it works good especially adjusting for glare.

As a direct answer to your question, if the mount says it will support a 32" TV then it will support it. You just have to ensure that the setup you use to secure it to the RV will support the bracket. Since it's your plan to install a 3/4" backer (good wood, not OSB or particle board) you will have more than enough bite to support that bracket. Just be sure the screws are long enough to go through the siding and firmly into the wood. It really should not take more than 4 screws in the corners to give plenty of support. The instructions that come with the bracket, however, will give you the details of what they recommend. Just "assume" that your backer is a wall stud when you are looking at the installation instructions. One Vizio 32" I just checked only weighs 17 pounds without a stand so this should be a really easy project.
What I post is my 2 cents and nothing more. Please don't read anything into my post that's not there. If you disagree, that's OK.
Can't we all just get along?

I like the idea of mounting a swing-out mount on the inside of the storage compartment wall. Then it is real easy to just swing the HDTV inside the storage bay and close the door on it. This is great too when you want to leave your trailer unattended...

I seen this before and I appreciate the suggestion. Im just asking about a good way to mount it in the spot I specified. Not if I should mount it or where I should mount it. Im not worried about the rain. If thats the case I'll just keep using a table like have been before.

Thanks

These new flat screen TVs are very light. A 32" probably would not weight much over 20 lbs. Since you are moving the TV, why not put it on a very small table that folds for storage? That way you can angle the table whichever way was necessary to prevent glare on the TV screen. I know a fixed mount TV is very hard to see when the sun is in the wrong location relative to the MH. Been there, done that. Even with the awning down it can be bad at times. Good luck.

Another problem may be what happens if it rains. You surly don't want moisture to get into your HDTV set. Having a mount on the outside wall may slow you down trying to get it taken down in a hurry...

Maybe you could mount it inside a compartment/baggage door so that it stays put and you only have to open the door to use?

I don't have much room being that my RV is small. I am limited on the compartments I have, I don't think I could fit a 32" in them. Possibly in the rear but with all my stuff in there I could break my TV.
