Plastic Potty to Porcelain Throne?

I'm sure someone here has done this upgrade, but I can't seem to find any info on it.

I have a short plastic potty in my bathroom sitting on a carpet-covered (ick!) box.

Is that box ONLY there for height adjustment to make it taller? Can I rip that box out, redo the floor and, er, uh, potty pipe into the holding tank and the water line to the new porcelain/china throne and be good?

Ah well, saves the messy work...!

Thanks so much!

We've been pleased with our choice of a Thetford Aqua Magic Style Plus toilet. We have the high profile model with the water saver spray attachment, but it's also available in a low profile model.

Thetford Toilet Conversion Chart.........LINK

RV toilets are installed almost the same way as residential toilets.....hold-down bolts onto a floor flange. Foam seal vs a wax ring

What you have to watch out for is clearance/available space.

Measure from center of floor flange to back wall so that new toilet has room
Measure from center of floor flange to front area....so cabinet doors/drawers, bathroom door have clearance

Porcelain toilets come in two heights.....low profile and a high profile models.
An elongated bowl/seat model is also available

The 'box' (riser) that toilet sits on it more than likely there for a reason (plumbing clearance/dump line---floor flange off-set etc.)
You can remove the ick! carpet and install tile/linoleum on riser.
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Take the old one off and you will be able to see if it is just a riser than can be eliminated or if it must be left as is. Sorry, wrong choice of words on "eliminated".

what I have found is the box is there because the tank is "just under" the floor. So as Dutch pointed out the plumbing has to go somewhere.

You can get short "low profile" ceramic bowls. And one of the best bowls for the money is Dometic's 310 toilet. It does a great job of cleaning the bowl sides because of how it shoots the water out of the holes. And it's relatively cheap, in things for rv's dollars...

Thanks, DF! Exactly the kind I've been looking at, but what is under that carpeted box under the plastic commode?

I guess my post was vague, but I don't need more height, I just want to do away with the short plastic thing and have a porcelain/china thing and the carpeted box would make the new one too tall. ๐Ÿ˜ž

I could just rip out the box and find out for myself, but I was hoping someone could tell me what to expect before doing so.

The bad news is that the riser ("box") is usually there to accommodate the drain plumbing into the black tank, or even the tank shape itself. Taller RV toilets have been around for many years, so when the coach builder uses the riser and short toilet, there's usually a good reason for it that's not easily changed. One mod I have seen though, is to remove the carpeting from the riser if you don't like it, and replace it with vinyl tiles or flooring.

The good news is there are toilets that are taller without the work and the mess of changing the plumbing.

This is the one we just put in 2 days before Christmas. It is only 3 inches taller than the old one, and it makes a BIG difference, getting on & off.

Sealand Model 310.

Google "Tall RV Toilets" and you will get great results and lots of options. Some toilets will add 5" in seat height.

Happy "sitting".
