turn signals in middle of trailer/5th wheel?

Has anybody installed turn signals in the middle of you towable RV? Do they help??? Any hints?

I notice many times a car will let you in or get out of the way when they see your signals. But that is when they see the signals. For someone along side you, it's hard for others to see your blinkers of tow vehicle and they can't see blinkers at end of your towable.

Of course others seeing your signals and doing something is another subject all together. Just trying to up my odds of more visibility.

I did this on my first trailer about 10 years ago, and on our 2010 outback as soon as we got it.

The other thing I'd like to have is a CHMS on the trailer and turn signals up high. I did the CHMS on my other trailer, looked at doing it at the outback, but getting a brake signal wire up to the top was to challenging.

I sure wish mine had them. And, unfortunately, they're above my paygrade of abilities for an install. 😞

With standard incandescent lamps, you can hook a lead to the stop/turn line and the other lead to the running lights. When the running lights are on, the light will still flash with the signal.
You can do this with LED fixtures, but you need to add some diodes.

I installed turn signal lights on the side of my 24 foot RV, I realized that the rear lights were to far in for a motorist to notice that I am making a lane change, and they insist on blocking the toad that is behind the RV, I believe that some drivers get tunnel vision when they get behind a vehicles steering wheel.

All vehicles should have this feature, I really like the mirror with the arrow, I placed turn signals under the mirror arm, they even have a recess for that.

BEST thing one can do is upgrade to LED lights, you won't believe the difference. Yes the light on the side of the RV is a great add on. Had it on last two RV's.

Yeah, around here, you use your signal, people know what you're going to do, they cut you off.. 🙂

Only downside is what happened to us yesterday. Had just passed a truck who was in the right lane and came upon a wagon in the middle lane going below the speed limit. When traffic cleared I passed the wagon on the left as one should, turned on the signal to get back to the middle only to have him speed up mad flip me off. Shouldn't have gave him a warning I was moving over....;)

I believe these are required for trailers over 32' in length (at least in WA). The fun comes in tapping into existing wires and routing new wires.

I installed turn signals on my fiver about 1'behind the fifth wheel portion. I think they do help with visibility.
