Anderson hitch question

I watched the Anderson hitch video and noticed that it goes over a hitch ball that sticks up in the middle floor of the bed. My question is do all the hitches have a ball in the middle floor of the bed? The hitch ball is at the bed level. Is the four point mounting not enough? Also, are the drill points in the bed universal for all hitches or do they vary by brand. I'm still learning here appreciate any info thanks in advance

The ball on an Andersen can be raised and lowered. It has about 3 inches of travel and takes less than a minute to change. I used to have an RBW which was set as high as it would go. The trailer towed level. With the Andersen set at its highest level, the trailer is nose high.

If you are truly interested in the Andersen fifth wheel hitch, they are coming out with puck system hitch. I believe its in Feb. 2017. they will have a model for GM ,Ford, and Ram. So if you own a truck with the puck fifth wheel prep this will be a great hitch. Yes, they are made in the USA. 🙂


IMO they are great hitch to be considered, some think otherwise, but of course they haven't owned one, and they will probably be along shortly to give their negative comments . One has already showed up

Check out B&W turn over ball gooseneck hitches to see how the system works with the Andersen Ultimate hitch. It's not like the Andersen sits on the truck bed alone.

The gooseneck models use the gooseball to pull the hitch base thightly to the bed floor so that the frame does not turn on the bed floor. Pin weight is carried on the bed floor and not directly on the frame.

Because it uses a ball and coupler a lot of states require safety chains.

Personally I am not a fan of having to raise the trailer higher to clear the ball to hitch and unhitch.

The light weight to take it in and out of the truck is an attraction for many.

All of the Anderson use a ball in a platform type deal. There are 2 types. One that attaches to the rails like the common style kingpin hitch and one that uses a gooseball too hook to.
Not sure what you mean by 4 point except maybe the places it hooks into the rails.

You have to remember that a standard 5er hitch is as high or higher than the ball on a andersen. If not you would hit the bed rails on the truck.
