Building a Custom Bar

Hello! I am looking to modify an existing cupboard to accommodate some bottles of wine and liquor so they wont slide all around during travel. In the past I've just thrown the booze on the bed or in a hamper, but I'd like to have a designated space for these things and to possibly leave the hard stuff in there year round.

If anyone has already done this, would you mind sharing photos? I am looking for ideas right now.

Also, does anyone know if it is okay to leave liquor in the trailer during hot months? Would it turn skunky like beer?

Thanks! I'll be sure to share photos once mine is done ๐Ÿ™‚

I finally got around to building my wine storage and this is what I came up with. I used a 3 5/8" hole saw for reference. Next I plan to build some upright bottle storage in the cabinet above for shorter/squaty bottles.

Sorry for the poor photo quality, it was dreary day here in California yesterday so it was difficult to get good lighting.

edit: Not sure why tinypic rotated my photo, I apologize for that as well.

I'm in the process of building a shelf on sliders that comes out of one of the cabinets for just this purpose. They way we did it was we took regular old food cans and screwed them directly to the board that will slide out of the cabinet through the bottom of the cans. The wife and daughters have had fun painting and decorating the cans. The project isn't done yet but I'll post pics when complete.

It is this basic concept but modified a bit...

Cans
More Cans

You can really get creative with the cans you use or how you decorate them. And it's something only yours will have.

I hadn't thought of adding padding...I'll ad that little detail.

I just looked at a toyhauler that had a nice looking wooden wine rack below a cabinet. It didn't hold a lot of bottles...maybe six. I think it was a Momentum by Grand Design. I'll see if I can find a pic.

Yeah, it can get to about 110 here in Sacramento. I'm sure it's like 150 in our trailer in the summer. Last year the vinyl roller shades I installed melted and warped!

You can also use PVC pipe, cut to length (1/3 to 1/2 the bottle height), glue or screw it down. Can easily be spray painted any color you like, and adding foam is a good idea to keep them from banging around.

Distilled alcohol should be fine in the trailer year round, anything with high sugar content will not do well in the heat (wine, mixes, flavored drinks...). I guess it depends on your consumption rate ๐Ÿ™‚

I went to a carpet store and got some of their center tubes from rolls of carpet. Once I had those, I cut them into six inch lengths, and put the tubes into a shallow box, then I put the liquor into the tubes so they would not rattle about, but they do stand upright. You can see the labels easily, and it holds things without damage or breakage. You can also put small strips of foam in the tubes so that the foam compresses slightly as the bottle goes in.

Never mind, the page won't post properly.
Basically it said do not store liquor in heat.
