Capt_Dave

I am looking for a fifth wheel hitch, and saw a Curt A16 that looks like a nice unit. I have had a curt receiver hitch in the past but no fifth wheel experience. Anyone using one ?, how do you like it ?. Thanks

Nothing wrong with posting other side of a topic or other products for people to consider without BASHING or getting personal. As we can see the Mods have cleaned up this thread and have left the portions that are civil and of substance.

Thanks Mods!

Looks like the B&W crowd hijacked another thread again.
OP..I'll repost your thread topic.
Hope you get more input before the usual B&W crowd hijack's your thread and it gets closed.
You might try other rv websites also with your question if you need more answers from those that actually have the Curt.

I'll chime in on this thread...Got rid of my Curt Q16...too much slop and very light weight build. I have the B&W 18K patriot and could not be happier, it is stout, tight and easy to use.

Here is a comment regarding a B&W hitch. Everyone on here knows that Cummins has a high regard for his hitch but they are not perfect either.

Below is a review on Amazon.

I have this hitch which so far I have loved for pulling but the unhitch part has been a pain in the arse the 3 times I have used it there has been no release from my kingpin, which requires me to remove the pins on the upper carrier assembly and raise it above the base so it finally releases as I said a big pain. I thought maybe this is just a break-in period and it will loosen up but after 3 long pulls on a 34 ft rv it still hasn't performed as stated in the instructions, which even state that this hitch will release even under strained conditions well mine doesn't I will still say it is a great hitch I think I just got the Monday or Friday made model... I will contact the dealer I purchased from to find out what my options are...

That's very clearly operator error. He's raising he camper too high before releasing and biding up the hitch. When raising your camper you can clearly see the pin release to a neutral position for disconnecting.

As it can be with any hitch or mechanical device. No issues with my Curt and I had a Reese prior to this one. If equipment was trouble free we would have little need for this forum. How many times have there been questions on this forum when it is obvious that instructions were never read? Neither do I need to bash others when I try to justify a high priced item to make myself feel better.

I find a lot of the five-star ratings are the same.

People in the market read all the comments like the quote below. I have hitched an in-laws Mopar/Curt and it was a PITA and the color coding that's another story.

"I have been using a Q5 20k for abt 2 years now. It works very well once you figure it out. Mine is very picky about final latching."

You should not have to FIGURE it out. Hitching should be easy.

In-laws hitch & my B&W RVK3600. No comparison in quality or ease of hitching and unhitching. They are both 25K "rated".

BYW he hates his and wishes he had the B&W. Reason he has the Curt/Mopar is it came with the truck.

I figured out if you don't go into it exactly straight it won't latch all the way. My solution is back into it until it starts to latch. Then I raise the landing gear to just off the ground and let the rv center in the hitch. Then I raise it back up and it latches very easily.

I always do a visual check of the jaws but with the system they have it's not really necessary, just cautious.

Mine was getting a bit finicky too last year so I cleaned up the jaws and lubed them and lubed all of the lube fittings on the hitch and it was back to working like new.

Thanks for the replies. The dealership where I am getting my fifth wheel at sells Pullrite which is a bit more expensive, not that cost is the deciding factor. Want to be sure I get a quality hitch.
