Cyclone Toy hauler pulled by a Ford F-250 crew cab.

Guy pulls in to the camp ground a couple days ago spewing fluid from underneath the pickup. Manages to get the rig in a site after leaving a trail all over the place.

He is pulling a Cyclone fifth wheel Toy hauler loaded with a small car that likely weighs around 2000 pounds. He also has a lot of patio gear such as full-size gas grill and furniture adding and he likely has another 1000-1500 pounds of stuff in the rig in gear and stuff including the patio gear. He also has the full patio kit for the rear lift gate.

Pulling it with a crew cab F-250 4X2 dually.

I checked some basic numbers and the rig itself weighs around 14400 pounds without the car and gear.

According to one guide I found the pickup is only capable of towing 12500 pounds.

I saw them pulling it up on a roll-on wrecker today and spoke with the guy. He said he blew the front main transmission seal.

Would you all think the pickup is overloaded hence why the front main seal on the automatic transmission gave up the ghost?

Havent crossed there since memorial weekend. Next summer when I cross 20, I will be thinking alot about tranny fluid trails in the mirror.
Crossed over highway 2 with no problems in July. Hopefully one more trip across 2 this year, with no problems.

Did it blow out and spew fluid on the ground?

Could be a Ford thing.

My 02 f350 did this summer of 2013. I blew the front pump seal crossing north cascades highway 20 in Washington. Mine spewed fluid all over the ground.
I was told it was a normal failure point.
This summer the rest of the tranny went out Memorial Weekend.
Also, crossing north cascades highway 20.

I believe I would stay off that highway.:B

I was just thinking that dragging all that weight around put undue strain on the tranny and she finally screamed "ENOUGH!" and gave out at the weakest point.

That transmission is also in the F250, F350 and F450 with no changes between each truck. More than capable of handling a GCVWR of 30000lbs.

I've been dragging around 18,000 for years with a 2500 that is now 9 years old and still able to drag it around. He just had a bad seal.;)

Most likely it didn't have anything to do with his towing weight. Seals fail sometimes even on vehicles that never tow anything. Towing just made it fail a little sooner. It would have probably went out anyway. Does that answer your question? The only thing heavy towing, or over loading the rear axle might damage would be the rear axle bearings or possibly rear springs. It isn't so much how much weight you tow or haul as much as it is the driver & how it's towed. 🙂

This one was 4X2 automatic with diesel. Looked to be a couple to a few years old.

And were did this information come from. I cannot find an F350 near that except for maybe a 2015.

Ken
. My statement says... Depending on year and axle ratio..... From Ford web site -specs for 5th wheel tow ratings 2015 DRW 4x4 with 4.3 axle is 26,500 lbs; 3.73 is 23,300.... Other years and ratios will vary.

I want some of whatever you are smoking. They don't make an F350 with a towing capacity of 26,000lbs. The new ones have a GCVWR of around that but that's truck and trailer weight, not trailer by itself.

Added note. I stand corrected. The 2015 F350 DRW 4x4 Crew Cab 6.7 Diesel with 4.3 rear end has a listed towing capacity of 26,500 with GCVWR of 35,000. Any other combination and it goes down.
