I currently have a 36.5' class a Winnebago Journey DL diesel... I am thinking about a 5er (alpine) with F-350 dually... Some of the different posts I read is that the f-350 dually is a rough ride.. In a perfect world I could test the rig with the original equipment, but the couple still lives in it. Could I get some response here about this configuration. It can be purchased as a unit (truck and 5er)...

What do you guys do to your big Dually trucks to make them ride so smooth. Mine does not ride smooth. It rides much better with the 5th wheel attached but smooth is not how I would describe the ride. Now mine is a heavy Duty Ford, Camper package, Snow plow package which means heavier springs, I also have rear airbags to keep the rig level. It is a pulling beast. It is not uncomfortable But I know I am driving a big truck pulling a big 5th wheel. Smooth?????

I have a F350 2011 SRW so it is not the same as what you are looking at but I saw a couple Driving/Automotive review shows that describe the F350 as jumpy when empty but stable and smooth once loaded.

I can attest that my truck fits that description perfectly. It drives smoother with the Fiver than without.

Have a 2011 F350 long bed dually and we have no complaints about the ride, in fact it is very comfortable either with pulling our 5er or just out riding around. Semper Fi

I have a 2012 F-350 DRW and mine rides good. Have pulled for up to 8 hours a day and feel great afterwards. Driving around unloaded is just as good a ride.

My Dually rides well like a one ton dually that means rough. Its job is to pull a heavy 5th wheel and it does that just fine. By comparison our Honda auto has a smooth ride but will not pull much.

I previously had 2 each F350's, both dually, 1 4WD, 1 2WD. Both were pretty stiff when unloaded, but not as bad as one would expect.

Once hooked up though, it's amazing how much "softening" effect a ton and a half of pin weight has on rough rides.

I wouldn't let the ride quality be the determining factor.

Well I have a 2010 F350 CC Dually 4X4. The truck rides great towing my 5th wheel. I will say unloaded on rough roads is not a caddy, but its not bad. I love the ride of my truck and we have even driven to VB from NY with no camper and took the truck for a better ride.

In 2011 Ford changed the suspension and these trucks ride better than the older ones. My F350 dually rides better than my older F250.

I have a dually albeit a GMC. It is a 1 ton truck designed to haul heavy loads. It doesn't ride like a Caddy. It is rough riding and more so when the tires are aired up to 80 lbs for towing. It does ride better when I drop the tire pressure down to 50 lbs when not towing, but still not like a caddy. It is a truck.

I your rides going to be like your MH's NO. With that said, it really depends on the roads you travel and the loads you carry. Like others have said an empty truck rides great, while a loaded one not so much. The biggest ride problem is in the "chucking" which is the transferr movement between the FW and truck. Smooth road smooth ride. There are alot of options to help make the ride smoother, air bags, air type king pin boxes.

My F350 DRW rides just fine. Longer wheel bases ride better and rides better with a load. Air bags did help the ride while towing.

If I had the money I'd love to swap out the rear suspension and make it like a big trucks suspension. Auto Flex air ride suspension offers such a system but the swap out is around $4,000 last I checked.

The dually in my signature rides pretty smooth but on uneven pavement the 5th wheel can buck and give a rough, jerky ride.

Compared to my 1500 my F350 SRW rides south when empty, my said the Kubota rides better. Loaded with the fiver its rides really nice but that is expected as the suspension is made to carry and pull heavy loads. Test a truck out before you make the purchase. Good luck.

Would I be happy with the ride after driving 25000 mi in a air ride diesel motorhome...or would My DW think (oh******this rides rough)... I currently have a third vehicle chev 1500 4x4 2006. It rides pretty darn good. I guess going to a dealership and test riding a f350 dually would be a good idea...
