Kids in the toyhauler?

My family is looking to live in a fifth wheel full time next year so we can travel with my husband for school. We want our two little kids to have a separate room and have been debating between a bunk house and a toyhauler that comes with beds. I know they design those toyhaulers with the potential for people to sleep in, but my kids are still very young and I worry about it being too cold. Does anyone have experience with this? Do some brands have better insulation than others? One of the reasons we want a toyhauler is we think it will be easier to sell down the road than a big fifth wheel with a bunk house. Would it actually make a difference?

Get one that has a half bath for the garage dwellers. Mine does.

then we updated to the toy hauler and ours has 3 queen beds and 1 twin. so now i can sleep with my 4 year old son, my wife sleeps with the twin sister and my older 1 has her own bed (but she sleeps with somebody anyways).
as far as the cold the toy hauler is a little cooler then the toy hauler garage but not terrible. if you get a space heater or a heat grid in the ac unit. you will be good.
aslo somebody mentioned a second bath thats worth its wait in gold with kids.
also my personal favorite is the level up.
good luck with your choice

Rb71,
What is "level up?"

hazardous. My toy hauler has a second bath and a lot of other toy haulers have them too.

Our kids and my wife love the fact the kids have their own room in our toy hauler. FUZION300. Wouldn't have it any other way.

Not to mention a lot of the toyhaulers have the crucial 2nd bath. That was a deal breaker for us when we were looking for toy haulers, the 2nd bath was a must, especially with kids.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone! We'll definitely be looking in to winterization packages and space heaters, as we'll be traveling around the country, and don't have much control over where we'll go and when.

I see your in Oregon I'd would assume that they would set you up in a Toy hauler that has a winterize package also due to the cold winter months there.

As mentioned..lugging a "bigger than you will need", heavier, larger 5th wheel Toy Hauler when you merely need comfortable living quarters for the kids and 2 adults will probably be overkill.

You'll find a family/kid friendly 5er will be easier to tow, more comfortable for the kids, most likely an overall better layout for the little guys.

Just some Examples-

1) The Jayco Seismic Toy Hauler 5er 3210 Model is 37 ft long, weighs 12,500 lbs dry, 16,500 gvwr, carries 148 gallons of fresh water and comes with a fuel tank and generator you don't need.

2) On the other hand, the Jayco Eagle 34.5 BHTS is 38' long, 10,233 dry, 12,995 loaded gvwr. Kids get their very own private bunk room with either 3 bunks or 2 bunks and a sofa with a TV hutch and closets. They also have their own rear entry door, their own 1/2 bathroom with rear toilet/sink too! You may not see them for days! ๐Ÿ˜‰

By the way....a Standard outside kitchen, sink, refrig too!

Look at Forest River products (Rockwood, Wildcat, Sierra, etc), Heartland, Crossroads, Prime Time etc for some great RV's from terrific companies that meet your needs. Good luck!

Sorry that I have nothing to add (perhaps that I admire that family for doing that! very cool)

The people in the links use a 43 foot toy hauler, from what I see.

Just so I contribute a little, here's a link to the first video:

Youtube has a series of videos from a family of Six living in an RV. A toyhauler to be exact. Look them up... they have some really nifty ideas on storage.

Thats the reason I purchased a toy hauler. We only have one child and didn't need a bunkhouse 5th wheel with sleeping for 3 or 4. My son alternates between the loft and the garage for sleeping (and our bed sometimes).

We bought our TH just for that reason- so the kids could have there "own" room when we go camping. Ours didn't have a heater vent in the garage but it did have a/c. I added a heat vent to the garage but honestly it didn't do much good. The garages don't seem to be insulated as well as the main living area. With that being said we picked up a small electric heater that has that knock over protection- it shuts off if knocked over or if it overheats. With one little heater going- it keeps the garage at 72* when it's 30* outside. I got the heater at Target- think it cost 21.99
