Landing Gear

Just completed my second trip with our first 5th wheel. Got home and chocked the wheels. Started extending the landing gear and when weight was put on, the gear slowed to a crawl and then stopped just as the weight was coming off the king pin. Power cord was still hooked to the truck and the battery indicator showed full. Am I missing something simple?

You should have forgotten the packer game and checked out the trailer. ๐Ÿ™‚

I never bother running anything until I have plugged in the shore power weather it be at camp or at home. Not sure if this is an option where you park the trailer or not. Just my way of doing it.

Landing gear is connected directly to the battery. Bypasses the disconnect switch as a "last resort" ability to raise/lower the jacks.

The truck charge line is on the house side of the disconnect.

With the disconnect switch in the off position, the truck was feeding the lights and other interior 12 volt items. The landing gear was pulling off of the battery and just ran the battery down.

Recreating the situation will just help destroy your battery's ability to bounce back from a deep discharge. DON'T.

I am going to try and recreate the issue when the Packers are not about to play a game. Based on what happened the landing gear had some power when the battery disconnect switch was in the off position. The power cord to the truck was hooked up and the truck was running. This makes no since to me, I must be missing something. Back to football....

Problem solved. My wife was removing items from the basement and accidentally turned the battery disconnect switch to the off position. Note to self: check the simple things first.......

Seeing as landing gear are wired directly to battery(s) and they retract it's not the in-line fuse BUT low battery voltage.

Need to load test your battery(s)
Is it time for your medication or mine?

Rear stabilizers are not down, gear will operate on retract, not on extent. I took a break for Packer game. Will check fuse / voltage to motor at half time....

I assume you did not do something like putting the rear stabilizer jack down first. That would make it slow down a lot. They are not all that fast anyway but you might need to check the electrical connection to the jack motor.

I did get enough height on the gear to get the truck off of the 5th wheel...

Yes, truck was running. I will check the in-line fuse. Guessing that is not it as the gear slowed to a halt. The gear worked great up to this point. No bad gear sounds. Thanks for the tips....

No funny noises like a gear slipping? If not, and you're sure you have decent voltage (you do have the truck running don't you), I'd suspect an electric motor problem. You should have a crank handle and access to manually crank it up.
