Lifting Fifth Wheel Hitch

New to the site so please excuse me if I screw up.
I am trying to locate a Kingpin adapter to help me lift my Hijacker in and out of my f250. I have heard that Demco makes one but I was wondering if anyone else does.

I think that was a sneaky jab at the aluminum Andersen hitch that only weighs about 35 lbs. Handy, if the most important consideration is that the hitch be really light. Most of us are concerned with the strength, not the weight.

Sorry, couldn't resist an opening like that. LOL

Great info... Just convinced me to purchase the Andersen Ultimate! Thxs.

I have an engine hoist that I got on sale for $100. Sold the included stand for $50. Had to spend that to get the boom extended to reach the center of the bed, though. Found a 3" eye bolt with a 3" flat plate welded on it in my dad's scrap pile and use that to drop into the jaws to lift with. Drop the hitch down on a $10 furniture dolly from Harbor Freight. At least that's how I =used= to do it. My very smart daughter married a gym rat of a guy, now I buy a 6 pack of good IPA and split it with him. He lifts and I "supervise". 🙂

This looks very handy, I have been usinga strap designed with 2 hooks and a center loop to lift the carrier. With this I won't have to take off the saddle.
Thanks.

I hear ya'. For computers I have lot of grandkids to show me the way.
For removing my various hitches from my trucks beds over the years I use I use two machine eye bolts in the outer edges of the hitch top plate. Simply lift the hitch up with a old come-a-long hanging in the tractor barn. Lift it a couple of inches and drive out.
Lots of ways to remove a heavy hitch from the bed of a truck.

Hi,
I have the Hitchhiker SL16 , the version made before Demco took over the hitch line. I find my fifth wheel hitch can be easily slipped out of the truck rails when it's not in use.
Does anyone have ideas on how to lock the hitch into the rails to prevent theft ? I have noticed a lot of the SL16 and SL24 hitches for sale in the local on-line marketplace, most without the mounting rails, which I find odd/suspicious.

All thoughts/solutions appreciated !

Same for me! I was getting ready to build one. My old two piece, 20K Reese was a piece of cake. Our new Trailer Saver ( about 300 pounds) don’t even think about it. Presently use a “choker” and a Kubota!

I installed a hoist on my garage ceiling. Once the hitch is lifted out of the bed, I lower it onto a furniture dolly and roll it away.
The hoist has also come in handy for working on my mower. I lift one side which then makes removing the blade for sharpening and oil changes much easier.

I lift mine with my 5th, drive out from under it and when I level the 5th I set a jack stand and wood blocks to counterweight the hitch and take the pull off the 5th. I really don't think it hurts to leave it hanging but the jack stand thing is so easy I just figured why not?

most any lift will do the job. even a complete hitch assambly is not that much. ( more than i want to lift).

side of truck bed hoist,
in a garage or under a large strong tree branch a couple pullys (DOT rated rope, or better yet use wire rope), and a boat crank.
