My first trip out, very overweight.

I dont need the weight police, i know what im doing and what im changing. This is just my experience and i will be asking about some concerns.

2007.5 6.7 mega 1 ton. SRW. I do have 19.5 rims and some 4700lb goodyears. Added airbags
Weights fully loaded
front 5100
rear 7000
trailer 14600.
So i am grossly over weight on combined vehicles. Almost 4000 over the gross combined.

It towed great going uphills, going downhill, and in a straight line.
There were times you didnt know it was back there.

BUTTTTT, here is the issue and concern. Switching lanes you would get this sensation that the trailer was moving the ass of the truck around. Tail wagging the dog??? This feeling is one i do not like. I want control and that is NOT control.
Now, if i switched to a dually, does that feeling go away??

Besides that, it pulled great, stopped great, but as for a feeling of control, it wasnt there. It handled the wind well also..

See the trailer isnt that big.

OK ITS HUGE.

oh, and with my 4 battery setup. We went 3 full nights with heater running, radio and what not, batteries never got below 12.3

Before you do anything else especially take it on another trip... Go and weigh the truck and trailer loaded then drop the trailer and reweigh the truck, I'm concerned you don't have enough pin weight.

I'm surprised it took so long for someone in this thread to get snarky. It's still a disappointing thing to see, though.

I tow about the same weight when I am fully loaded.
Wind, semis... nothing makes me feel like the trailer is moving my truck around.

I also have 3.73 gears and don't need any more.
I can pull a 6% grade at 65mph and still have throttle left.

Buy a dually and leave it stock. You won't have anymore issues......

Here we go again !! You have allready been told by MANY that with that trailer you need a dually but you got mad at everyone because you knew what you were doing !! Now why ask people what you have allready been told the answer and now know ???

From the tow vehicle pic's topic, you say you have "Goodyear 622's and 19.5 visions" on your truck.

While there are certainly other factors contributing, I don't think the G622's are the right tire for your rig. While they may have the weight rating needed, the "Unisteel" construction has the steel belts only in the tread area. I would look for some tires that have steel in the sidewalls as well, which will stiffen them up a lot.

You will probably lose some off-roading capability, and you may not like the ride, but they won't flex like the tires you have.

:):)
Unfortunately i need SOME ride and some off roading capability.. I had a hard time in some sand. ONe of my friends is a rep for ATD tires. He was the one who recommended the 622s. Dang. I cant win. lol
Duals will definitely cost you some off-roading capability. They ride up on top of marginal surfaces (water, mud, snow, sand) as though you were wearing snowshoes.

That seems like a positive for sand right?

I dont do a lot of 4x4. I just dont want to negate that totally.
I've found that my off-pavement traction is lousy when I'm unloaded, and just fine when I have a ton of pin weight pressing down on the rear axle. I have 2-wheel drive, so I'm not the right person to give you an opinion on how a 4x4 dually will handle in sand. I'm sure others here can chime in.

HDT Volvo or Freight Shaker with under 800k on it can be had for 20K or under with new rubber. Pull an axle, super single the remaining move the 5th wheel behind the rear axle viola problem solved for half or a new truck, plus you can keep the one you have. My F350 dually tows my 4014LEV Raptor just fine, I have the 4.10 gears and am on the fence if 3.73 would be an improvement. It still knows its back there however. If you get a Schenider truck with the 2.32 gears in it with super singles , you should easily achieve double digits towing you camper fully loaded. This is going to be my next move.

I searched everywhere for this super single setup for hte rear and couldnt find anything on that...
I heard people put super single on the rear of their duallys. That sounded pretty cool.

Something is not right with those weights-

Ya, that was my thought. Both were weighted the exact same way.

I put it on there, and sat, watied for the numbers to stop moving. I think i only added 2000 pounds of gear/quads/bikes/food. But wouldnt that add a minimum of 200 to the truck. Isnt 15% more like what it should of been.

The trailer empty was in the 12400-12600 range, when hooked to the truck.
