im having a hard time deciding on a new 5th wheel, looking for some input as to what manufacture to check out

That is an issue for the size and weight you are talking about.

What is the rear GAWR, and what does the rear axle weigh empty? Add at least 200-400 for hitch and stuff to the empty rear axle, then subtract that from RGAWR. That is the pin weight you can handle. Now take manufacturers empty weight and compute the percent of dry pin weight. Now apply that percentage to the trailers GVWR to get an idea of the pin weight that you will have ready to tow.

They just announced that they are rolling out a toy hauler soon. No Floorplan or details are out yet. Just FYI.

I agree. I would certainly not go above 11K empty weight. Goal should be loaded weight under 13K in my opinion. Unless you want to spend more money potentially upgrading the F250 suspension, tires, wheels, etc. to get closer to the F350 SRW specs. You should be able to get something in the 34 to 35 foot range at that weight. My Columbus is 34.8 feet long and the empty weight is 10,600 lbs. Loaded I am about 12,600 lbs. I would never load mine to the GVWR of 14,000 lbs. The CAT scales are your friend. There are a lot off plans. Take your time and look at a lot. Good luck. Keith

We took delivery of a Grand Design Reflection a few weeks ago. We love the floorplan. It's very nicely finished, good use of space and great factory support. We thought it offered the best bang for your buck.
We looked at several 5th wheels and this one just worked best for us. Take you time. Do lots of research. Don't rush your decision.

Augusta RV is nice I assume you are speaking of their Ambition line not the Luxe as the Luxe would be to heavy. Well built but still a young company but getting good reviews, no toy hauler line. Check out the Thunderbolt line from Forest River. Good luck on your search.

Fifth wheels are like houses...well, for some of us, they are our houses! Having said that, for more specific input you need to look at available floor plans and then decide which best fits your needs and wants. Then you might ask for ideas on specific models and floor plans to get the best useable input. After all, my dream house (fifth wheel) might very well be your worst nightmare!

Just found a manufacture. Augusta RV. Any thoughts on them

We're on our second Forest River fifth wheel and have had very little problems with them. First one was a Sandpiper 3&6FL and now a Sierra 360PDEK.

Check out as many RV shows and walk as many RV lots as possible. Good luck.

If I were looking at 40' I'd to live in for work like you I'd go with one of the nicer upper end units. IMO doesn't have to be a DVR category but along the lines of a Big Horn, Montana Legacy.
