Took delivery of our first ever Fifth Wheel one week ago Tuesday. Last night, I FINALLY figured it out???? Why I have all these cuts, scratches, and bumps on the top of my balding head!
Reason? I keep whacking my head on the trailer fifth wheel hitch box and king pin! I finally caught myself scarfing my head on the thing!
Well ... that explains all the scabs this morning!
I learned the hard way after raising the hard head and missies seeing the bedroom slide when I was wearing a hat, I remove the hat every time I am under the overhang. Now I see it, but mostly, it makes both brain cells concentrate on not whacking something.
This is our 9th year as fulltimers both DW and I bumped our heads on the king pin the first month on the road. Neither of us have done it since. I can only assume none of you have a memory of pain.

I keep an orange traffic cone under ours while parked at the house not so much for banging of the head but the kids from parking the nose of their cars under it.

Get a cheat piece of egg crate foam and wrap the hitch when parked. Course the aesthetics leave a little to be desired, but your scalp will appreciate it.
