Open Range Light

We are super close to purchasing an Open Range Light 295FBH. I am looking for feedback on this company. I feel like there isn't much out there on this manufacturer. We are also considering a keystone hideout 308bhds but right now the Light is our top pick.

Thanks!!

Your and the one above are the first I have seen regarding slide motors. Did you have the cables properly adjusted so as not to put undue stress on them? If you go to BAL website you will find complete instruction on how to do it. We have a triple slide OR that was built in 2008 and titled 2009 and have not had a failure to date. Have had cables adjusted once.

Cable were adjusted properly, even had the newer gear boxes that were not suspect to have bad gears

There was an unknown number of bad slide gear boxes that were placed in 2013-2014 units. I dont know if 2015 and above are impacted.

Hmmm I would hope that if the 2014 slides were having gearbox problems that they would fixed the issue by now-we are looking at 2017 models currently. But is is good to know and something to ask the manufacturer about.

Which model do you have?
What do you pull it with?
How does it pull in a side wind or other conditions?

I have a 2014 Open Range Light LX249RBS. It is the shortest of the Light 5th wheel trailers. The camper is well made, lots of upgrades, but one fatal flaw in the design. The weak point is that tiny gear box that the moves the slides in/out with the cable system. I have a couch/dinette slide in mine and had the gear box failure. You haven't lived until this gear box fails and you can't get the slide in. This type of failure is a critical failure because you cannot get to a dealer with the slide out. This is a common complaint on recent units. Newer units should have the upgraded gear box. It is wise to ask alot of questions to Open Range regarding this. We are currently in the process of moving up to a much larger 5th wheel. We get a lot of compliments on our Light.

Not sure what year Open Range you are looking at since the new company was formed in 2014.

We bought a new Open Range in May of 2008 and still have it. Yes, Jayco bought Open Range but Randy Graber who used to work for Keystone and Started Open Range is still there. It is a stand alone company that answers the phone Highland Ridge home of Open Range. Since our dealer went out of business without advising anyone, I had the opportunity to deal with the "New Company" and found it to be just as good as when we bought ours. FYI ours was the 162 unit Open Range built. I would not hesitate to purchase another one for the service we were shown by Open Range. Good luck. Just thought I would throw in my 2 cents since I have owned one.

Yes, I did know that but thank you for sharing. I think our model is called Open Range Light-at least that is what I have seen at a few different dealers. We are looking at a 2017.

We have a Light. It is a beautiful rig with many upgrades costing much more in other rigs. The company seems to be very receptive to issues. Not sure how the purchase by Thor will affect things but right now they have one of the best warranty's in the buisness(2 year bumper to bumper fully transferable)

There is a forum dedicated to OR with more information than you can shake a stick at! The thing that drew me to this unit was the layalty of the people to the brand and the repeat buyers.OR owners forum

The other thing about the OR Light is it is the ONLY unit that is available with a factory option of using a gooseneck or a 5th wheel. Many are choosing the Goose option and saving a ton of payload and bedspace

I like the features of the Light but not the small tank size. Would have made my short list otherwise
