Poll: do you use the comfort station?

Please no flaming. I'm honestly curious whether you use the campground comfort station, your rig's bathroom or both. If you use the comfort station, why?

We have used the campground's showers only once in ten years, due to four people having to get ready for dinner reservations in a short period of time.

I bring my comfort station with me. I know who used it last and it is clean.

I replied to your question on the Class A thread, but I'm going to reply again here because it's a valid question and others here may also be curious...

There is an RV park reviews site that I check when looking for a campground. For years I've wondered why most of the bathroom/comfort station ratings were posted by people in motorhomes. The site asks reviewers to state what type of RV they camped in. I'm beginning to wonder if reviewers on that site are simply not changing the default (Motorhome) to what they're actually camping in. The differences in respondents between my question on the two threads here on RV.net seems nil.

Thanks much, the post you just made above really clears things up.

That also brings up another question that would have bearing: Are motor-homes the most common RV?

I do know that between motor-homes and fifth wheels, the two are by far the most common RV used by retirees and full timers, according to the polls I have seen.

Most often, I use my camper's facilities. In the rare case that we have a bunch of people who need showers all at once or I'm at a site without full hookups, I'll use the campground showers. (I don't have anything other than a 5 gallon bucket for offloading gray water without hookups and surely am not breaking camp to do so.)

Where I grew up the bathtub is for storing beer. If you want to shower, there's a hose outside...but seriously...

If it's reasonably clean, we generally use the bathhouse facitlities.
- Late night, we generally won't bother.
- If we don't have full hook up and will be there a while, we make more of an effort to use the bathhouse.
- If it's nasty or otherwise undesirable (ie: walking back with a wet head while winter camping), we use the onboard facilities.
- If we are out and about in the campground, we usually use the bathhouse.

I guess I am just used to it having grown up with 9 brothers and sisters. We never would have made it thru the first shower otherwise.

It depends on the campground hookups. Full hookups we use the trailer. Water and electric only it depends on how long we are going to be there. Electric only isn't going to happen so water capacity isn't a factor. Once a year we dry camp for 2 days and our tanks can handle that.

I assume you mean a true comfort station and not just a common public bathroom.
These are great for us. We take along our disabled adult son and comfort station make it easy for us (and enjoyable for him) to be bathed. Otherwise it's a watery mess in the RV.

I would think the same would be true for any disabled person. It's nice for them to be able to take care of all their business in a private bathroom all their own just like they were at home.

As for regular rest rooms, we only use them for the BIG job.

you couldn't drag my wife to a public restroom with a team of horses.I'm not quite so fussy but generally do not. We have a nice clean facilty at our ready.

We use ours for as some said when we are close to it, or during the evening, but if out and about usually use the camp facilities.
Doing tent camping for all my life it is also a habit, and with the fifth wheel lifestyle now I am getting used to having our own facilities, but we have camped dry before and did not want to fill up our unit, so worked best to use the campground ones.

We usually camp in a parking lot (motorcycle track days) that has at the most (if ever) electric. No water or dumping hook ups, no even a dump station near by.

Because of that we limit the time we use our own facilities (we don't know when we will be dumping next). If it's close by we use the facilities at the track and shower at the track b/c of the "endless hot water" as someone else pointed out.

If we are at the campgroud with full hook ups and ability to dump, we use our own facilities.

Yeah, same here. We stay at a park in Austin TX, very, very nice!!! Very clean, secure private showers (locking doors). We use them as they have significantly more pressure, lots of really hot water and room. I'm 6'2, 250 lbs, with a 52" chest. (Not bragging) but fitting into the shower in the rv, I have to back out to change my mind.... So, campground showers whenever decent.

I will use the campground shower because I like the endless supply of hot water. I carry a roll of quarters in the truck when we go to state camprgounds. There is more room at the campground showers and it is just easier to bath the kids.

Only use the park shower if we do not have sewer hookup and plan to stay a few days. Save the grey tank for the DW who does not use the park shower.
