Rig destroyed today!

Ginnie and I have been on the road since mid June. This morning I developed a sudden fuel leak in my 2013 F350. It ignited before I could get stopped. Ginnie, our doggie and I bailed out of the truck and the cab was quickly engulfed in flames.

The fire spread to our 2014 Grand Design Reflection fifth wheel. The truck, FW, and all of our personal possessions were destroyed. We were able to buy some clothes tonight and we'll drive the 1800 miles to home in a rental car. When I get home, I'll post some pictures.

Wow ... made me think about my towing. I too thought in case of fire, I could just drop the trailer on the ground and try to separate the truck and trailer a bit. Now that I have the Andersen hitch, unhooking is not so quick. I suspect there will be just not enough time to do anything more than EVACUATE! NOW!

So glad to hear you're all ok!

Hard to do when the fire =starts= in the truck... One reason that, when towing, our irreplaceables travel in the truck, bagged together.

D@mn, Jim. So sorry to hear about this, but glad you all made it out OK. Keep us posted as to the cause...if they can find out. I do agree that the adjuster is going to concentrate on that fuel tank, though with Ford having other known fires, it may be something completely different.

This is the second Ford 350 in 6 months to burn up suddenly that I'm aware of. Coincidence?

Ford has a long history of vehicles that tend to combust. Anyone remember the pinto? Sounds like a design flaw to me, heres a new one on fire. Sad part is it will likely not have any recall until someone dies as a result.

Glad you guys got away from the fire ok. Material possessions can be replaced...

We got in the habit of having important documents (passports etc, wallets)/flash drive with us at all times i.e. on the bike, in the truck, on our persons, or in the rv - so in case of fire they are grab and run...

I'm truly sorry to hear this. I'm glad that no lives were lost, and I hope that your insurance is able to help you get setup again quickly.
