RV Barns

I have never liked keeping any vehicle outdoors rather it be an automobile or an RV. In the past we kept our fiver in our shop, but with space being a premium we decided to have an RV barn put up. We had the RV barn put up behind the shop and now there is room in the shop again.

Mine was right at $3600 with tax. I had to pay and extra $100.00 to the installers so that they would cut around the roof line of my carport. BUT because they had to borrow my 30foot ladder he added the extra 6 bracing arms that you can see on the rafters. Mine is NON-certified. Normally a NON certified would have only 6 braces(one at each end and the middle). Mine has 12. the 12 foot tall siding down the one side locks in the front to back movement(keeps it from moving in the wind). We have had wind this year too.
Once I add the 3 foot down the carport side that will lock this thing in real good. They drove 3 foot rebar through base and into a my gravel driveway. Certified would have been the corkscrew style wind tie downs plus a brace at each rafter. The siding acts as those braces that would be placed on the bottom plate and the upright poles. I paid extra for the "A" frame style also. Hope this helps you.
Oh yeah TNT Carports out of My Airy, NC same place Carolina Carports is located. Both are about the same around here because we are about 70 miles from them.

Tommy, I paid 3500 dollars for my RV barn, it is 35 X 18 X 13 high at the eves and 15 high at the peak of the roof. An out fit from Waco put it up in about four or five hours. They are normally 12 high at the eves, the extra foot was an extra cost as was the gables in the ends and the heavier gauge steel used. I ordered it from Carolina carports. Apparently they have contractors around the country that puts them up for them.

my rvport, 16X41 with 12' poles and one enclosed side. I have 3' of siding to add to poles on the carport side back to roof line of carport. this is keep sun off that side of camper. I plan to add a half back side before its over. Wish I had done all this up front. but trying to keep costs down.

My garage is similar, but not the same, sides don't come down as far as the pictures, 16X36. Price was $2500 installed, about 2 years ago, did not include site preparation, piers, etc. I installed concrete piers down the sides, and they mounted the frame to the concrete piers, but they will install directly on the ground if that's what you want.

There are TONS of options and all different designs, colors, quality of materials, etc. One thing I would have done differently is to completely cover the south side with metal, about $400 more. I'm adding that now.

All in all, an excellent investment for the safe keeping of our 5th wheel.

Because of my shop on one side of the barn and the trees etc. on the other side of the barn the sun never touches the tires. I also have tire covers that I cover the tires with as an extra precaution. The decision as to close the sides completely or not is debatable. A lot of people leave them open, actually I had them brought down a little more then do most people. The open sides will help with the ventilation and also affords you some light while doing maintenance on your RV. When I had it built I had planned on leaving the ends open. I have since changed my mind about that and now plan on installing doors. I already have the material ordered.

I can't answer for Centex but in my case. Due to the layout of trees and buildings the sun can only hit the tires for a couple of hours. Plus my trailer is campground "home". We use it as a spare bedroom, man cave, etc. The slides stay out and we have a view, not looking at walls.

My DW disappeared the other day and she was in the trailer with 2 gkids playing games.

Cen Tex, why wouldn't you put the sidewalls completely to the ground? You're still exposing your tires to the sun, breaking them down sooner.

My RV barn is 18x44 with a 14x14 sectional door and Chamberlin Liftmaster opener. Lexan upper level windows on the east and south sides. 50 amp service and a macerator pump. Now it is fully insulated. It adjoins the 2 car garage and 'house' so just 30 ft from door to door. Probably cost around $10k, but just part of a total rebuild after 2011 wildfire. We lived inside the RV parked inside the barn for a number of months until the house was finished. Original fire damaged garage slab is visible in front of the truck.

I had a 36x45 slab poured and then put an RV port on half of it, 18x45, 12' at the eaves, pointed N-S. It is open on each end and the west side has a row of panels to keep off all but the late evening sun which is blocked by trees. I got the upgraded panels and the heavier supports. Installed price was $4400 and it took one day.

To answer a few questions. It is anchored to the ground with eight mobile home anchors. If your are unfamiliar with the mobile home anchor it is an augur that is twisted into the ground with a machine. The building is warrantied for 130 MPH straight winds. As for concrete, I will be pouring a slab but not covering the entire area of the barn. The slab will be from the rear of the trailer to the area just past the dollies and will be ten feet wide. This barn is 36 feet long and yes I wish I had had it built to 40 feet at least. The trailer is completely under it but barely. I do have some doors ordered to cover the ends. As for the cost, these barns are like trailers, you can pay as little or as much as you want depending on what you want. This one cost me 3500 dollars. I up graded to a heaver gauge metal, I opted for a 13 foot height at the eves or the bottom of the gable if you will, which normal is 12 feet and the gables cost extra but makes it look nicer. My shop is a 42 X 100 foot Morton building and a little over half of it is for parking vehicles, I have several cars and pick ups in it plus a couple of 18 wheeler trucks.

Mine is 17' wide and 40' long and completely enclosed. I had the port built and then another company fabricated doors for the front........

Just curious what that really does for you other than maybe shelter part of the roof? The sun still hits the ends (most sensitive part to UV), and you still get all the indirect weather.

Why not just finish it out with doors and sides? Is it a moisture issue? Code? I'm not from that region so just asking.

Down here in FL they told me code was 170 mph winds. It takes a lot of concrete to hold that much parachute down in 170 mph winds.
I'm doing a" driveway slab" or parking slab, no permit required. Then erecting a "portable garage" Canvas carport.
If a bad hurricane comes this way, my trailer and I will be gone anyway, the canvas comes down, and the poles are screwed together.
No damage to others property, and I have a place to stay when it all settles down.
