ToyHaulers WITHOUT Walled Off Garage

My husband and I are looking at upgrading from our TT to a 5th Wheel Toyhauler (newer badass truck means newer badass trailer right?).

So it's just the two of us, and our dogs. We don't have a lot of toys, YET. So we're looking for a modest/smaller sized toy hauler. We looked at a few and a lot of the haulers at the smaller end of size still have a wall along the back third of the trailer that separates the "garage" from the rest of the trailer and, for our use, unnecessarily makes the space less useable.

Anyone know of good manufacturers who don't have that wall? So far only found Forest River.

Anyone know how much structural integrity that wall adds? Is it possible to customize a trailer and take it out?

Boat in toy hauler

I want to do this: modified Jon boat. 1448t with a tiller and trailer with swingable tongue. Boat length 14ft. Tongue of trailer goes into aisle of trailer living area. Already posted a thread but seems appropriate to add in here. Best darn 14ft garage to open aisle is?

My parents have the open floorplan and they put a tarp down on the floor. They haul. RZR 1000. Used to haul a couple of quads. It works for them.

I would only consider a separate garage if I was in the market for a larger hauler. 12ft minimum on garage. On smaller haulers your pretty much limited to 10ft which would be useless for me. Even at 12ft I would be loosing a lot of storage capacity compared to what I have now. Separate garage works for some but is not for everyone. As with everything there are tradeoffs either way.

Why I don't want a wall?

There's only 2 of us and 1 dog. No kids. So we want to keep the trailer to the smaller end as we don't need that much space.

Also, we use the trailer as much for eventing as we do for camping with toys. The smaller trailers with the wall feel more cramped. So at least half of the time we won't have any gas powered toys it seems a waste of space to break the trailer up into 3 rooms (Bedroom, living, garage.

I'd rather have one large open space with tile flooring.

Our Weekend Warrior was an open floor plan with a slide. Our 22' trailer had almost 16' of cargo space allowing us to carry two buggies.

Mostly ride sand and just hit it with the blower after we get home and unload. My 28SAG has like 8 tie down points. On the Rhino I typically only do a couple of HD straps on the back. With tie downs your really just trying to keep things from shifting FORWARD in a heavy breaking situation.

For mud/dirt they do include an outdoor type rollout carpet with the trailer that could be used as a mat when the toys are loaded.

Here she is loaded.

I am looking at the 28 SAG also, and being my first toy hauler, I have a few questions.

What do you guys do at the end of the ride to keep mud/dirt etc from getting all over your trailer. If you wash prior to loading, then it must drip everywhere, so how do you handle it?

How about tie downs, it must be a little more difficult to strap down a SXS in a toyhauler than an open sided trailer. Do you find yourself running up and down the ramp as well as in and out the side door strapping it down?

It does get dirty on the floor. I tie down to the roll cage.

Most of the brands I looked at eliminated living room slides when they did away with the garage wall.

They have that with just a room in the slide out instead of having a bike ramp.

I love the slide on my 28SAG. Its a small slide just for the sofa but makes a big difference once its opened. In the pic its still 6-9" or more from being all the way out due to a fence on that side of the trailer. I have just under 17ft from tailgate to fridge. Can get the Rhino all the way in jut in front of the fridge then two full size sport quads side-by-side (thanks to the 102' wide body) right behind the Rhino. Try doing that with a walled off 10ft garage...

we have 33' 5th wheel, no wall and wide body. I know slides are nice; but when the unit is wide open and 16' of space, you don't really miss the slides. Ours is older; but solid-- or so it seems.
