Transfer switch

How difficult it is to change out the transfer switch on my raptor 300mp? I have the service recall but I'm going out Wednesday till next week. And 4 of the closest dealers are booked till end of December. I can go pick a new one up if wiring is not too difficult.

Mine made the same noise. It didn't fail but did get dirty, few times had to bang on it to release the mechanism. After that I took the cover off and blew it out, then ran it a few times blowing out again. Never had issue with it after that.

Ah thanks old, maybe that's why mine is making noise. I have them position up down not side left/ right I'll re orientate the box.
The basic reason for side by side is that heat rises from one to the other. All contactors will radiate heat with the amount depending on the load thru them.

Never heard mine..but it was in 5vr basement compartment behind a false wall.

Just smelled it when if failed !!!!

I'm not following you about 'correct horizontal' install.
Horizontal to me is 'on the floor flat'.

Now vertical.....they do have cautions on how the relays are positioned when installing vertically (wall mounting) and that is the relays must not be situated up/down (one above other) they should be right/left (side to side orientation)

NOT Recommended install----wall mount

Correct wall mount

That is not my transfer switch..it is one I found picture of to illustrate ground bar wiring.

After posting I was checking out some other sites and found original picture from a posting on RV.NET------surprise, surprise.

Kudos to 'MrWizard' one of the moderators. Reason I used that picture was because the wiring was so clean and straight-forward.

I don't have a transfer switch.....after 2 failed I went 'manual'
1st one failed 8 mos. old---left me without ability to have 120V AC power.
Warranty replacement arrived 3 days later......and it was faulty right out of box.
Went to a manual double 50A mechanical interlocked breaker set up in a sub-panel.
YES......#6 wire is a bugger to work with especially tying in 3 junctions boxes & 1 subpanel inside basement compartment when you are 6'2" and 280#

Nice job on that wiring, #6 is hard to work with. You did it very nice... To bad its rare to see that type of clean wiring job in anything from the factory these days.

X2. I'm amazed at the junk I see out there, especially in new homes.

Well I got it installed. When through the cycles and checked with a laser heat thermometer to check temps and nothing was abnormal. I don't want to leave it on though until I can be out there to shut down if anything happens. Also , when the switch activated whether it's plugged in or after the few seconds for the generator. The switch is loud when it activates? Is this normal?
I would still like to know if I mounted the box correctly. The directions say how to mount it horizontally but they are very vague and I could only get the box to install horizontally.

Can anyone help me out a little, I'm having troubles with the grounds.

2 of the grounds are a solid copper And the one from the generator is a green coated ground wire.
Where do I wire the ground to and where is the ground to chassis go?

Not to sure on what would be running off a 2 pole but I'm in the process of replacing the box .

That looks like an overloaded neutral. Not being familiar with your trailer, is anything running on a 2 pole breaker?
