Transporting 5th Wheel cross country- Qustions ?

We are moving from Wisconsin to the upper Peninsula in Washington next month. Its a 2200 mile drive, which would be fine as we have done it before. However, hubby just had surgery and wont be up to making the long trip, much doing the majority of the driving.

We need to find transporters for our heavy 1 ton dulley and a cross country RV transporter.

I looked online for RV transporters, there are so many, hard to tell who is reputable and fairly priced.
I'm cringing at what the price is going to be.

Anyone have a hauler they have used for their RV in the past?

Thanks

I had a blazer shiped by UShip and all I can tell you is you will not sleep, it will cost a bunch and when they give you a date that it will arrrive, that date will go by many days, from Augusta Ga to Seattle the bill was $1,854.00 plus damaged fender (Claims are a waste of time)and an additional 13 days for it to be delivered, very bad idea having a RV shipped, just take one of the members up on them going and getting it, well worth the money doing it that way. Peace of mind!!

What everyone is missing is a 12'+ tall 5th wheel trailer is going to be an oversize load. Not over wide or over weight but too tall. Overheight (15' IIRC) requires permits and if over 15'6" tall special routing. The truck is no problem but the trailer will run $6-$10/ mile, if you can find someone that will do it.

Or...what about storing it where it is and flying back when you are able to drive it back?

I used uship when I needed to get my popup from New Orleans to Phoenix. Took a while to get someone, but it was a lot cheaper.

Find someone who will drive with you and can fly back. The price of the plane ticket will be so much cheaper than trying to have the tv and 5er transported. Besides, finding a transport can take forever. My brother waited 8 weeks to get his truck on a transport from MI. Good luck!

We really don't want to sell it & then turn around and replace it. We have done lots of upgrading and it works well for us.

Any way you look at it it will be way less expensive to drive it there rather than have it hauled or to sell it and buy another one. The sales tax and registration fees will be more than the gas.

Don't forget it will take about 1400 dollars in gas to get it here on its own wheels, based on 6 MPG. Walmart's might be free, however gas is not. Chris

I would bet you will get tons of offers to do it simply for airline tickets. I know if I had the time I'd gladly do it for zero per mile...plane ticket to where the truck is currently and a ticket back from final destination. Wouldn't cost more than a few hundred dollars.

One option - put it on uShip and see if you get any bidders... Also we looked at http://www.classic-transportinc.com/ - had good reviews.

I agree with Atom. Try to get someone you know to help out. Ask your insurance company if they can temporarily add someone to your auto policy if that would even be required at all. All of this has to be cheaper than $4000+.

Because you already have the truck, couldn't you get a relative or friend to drive it out and fly it back. I think in the summer I would have plenty of volunteers that wouldn't mind making a vacation out of it.

Buck a mile, plus an airline ticket and expenses, and I'll drive it out for you.

Why not just sell it and buy another when you get settled in. $4,000 or so is a lot to spend to get an older rig out there.
