Water Pump runs regardless of panel switch position.

So this is an odd one for me but thought I would see if it's ever happened to others. Our water pump runs whether or not the water pump switch is on or off. To be clear: I am not saying the pump runs continuously. It only runs on demand like it should. However it used to require that we had the W/P control panel switch 'on' for it to operate. Almost as if the switch has fused the link within itself.
Any thoughts? Am I over thinking this and should just remove the panel and replace the switch? (Just typing this is making me want to go try) 😉

I would first disconnect the switch(s) circuit at the water pump to determine if the problem is in the pump, or is there is a short in the wiring or a bad switch.

After disconnecting, if the pump continues to run, use an ohmmeter to determine if the switch circuit is closed. If it is then determine if there is a short in the wiring or if it is one of the individual switches.

The other day I helped a friend with an older Jayco Designer. He couldn't get the pump to stop running. It turned out to be a two fold problem. First of all it had three pump switches that he didn't know about; one on the main panel, one by the bathroom sink and one in the basement on the panel that has the water valve switches on it, and any one of them can turn the pump on. We finally got the pump to stop when we finally found all the switches, but that was only part of the problem. As it turns out the water pump itself was shot: apparently the impeller was either broken or sheared off the shaft. In either case the pump would not pressure up. If yours is cycling on and off then your pump is probably ok. It's either got to be an unknown switch on or a switch that is burned out in the on position. JMHO

OP: did you check to see if it is a momentery or on/off switch?

Thanks Old-Biscuit, I ordered several and will try one as soon as it arrives. Second-outside switch made no difference. 😞

Bad switch or maybe the monoplex relay stopped working.

It's a on/off illuminated switch. Has worked as intended for 4 years until recently, when the switch light no longer worked and it no longer seemed to actually 'control' the pump availability.
Actually there is a second switch outside, on our outdoor shower as well. Never thought to check that, thanks! If that does not do the trick then I suppose the hunt will be on for a matching switch. Since our panel has about 12-14 identical red iluminated switches on it, I'd rather not have an odd-ball in there.

Thanks for the replies everyone!

It could be the switch or the pump controller.
Is this a rocker momentary switch or is it an ON/Off switch?

First, did it EVER work correctly? If yes, then most likely the switch failed in the closed position.
If no, then PERHAPS the switch is failed, or just not wired in at all?

so it works normal but runs all the time , I,m bet on the switch.second guess is the pressure switch on the pump.
