What kind of truck is this?

While we were walking around the campground last week we saw two large trucks pulling fivers. Looked like small tractor trailers. Talking to the owners they love them and pulling Nu-Wa's. My wife sat in one and fell in love with comfortable seats (air ride) and the how high it sat, could see everything. I lived the way they looked and that I could tow almost anything I ever wanted. For the life of me I cannot remember the manufacturer or models. Any ideas? Hate to see what one would cost also. Thanks for the help. Travel on.

I bought the white one.
Way way way less then $100,000 and more power by far then a MDT.

so how much less than a hundred grand?
we're in the market and test drove a kodiak--gorgeous truck which can stop a train i imagine, but geez-louise what a rough ride!
it was terrible even with air ride seats and not for us. i want some comfort and a smooth ride thanksverymuch!

Better look again at what you think is a FORD. It is an older DODGE Trail Duster.
Dodge Ramcharger or Plymouth Trailduster. No such animal as a Dodge Traulduster.
Ops my bad. I stand corrected. Thanks.
I only know because I had both, and that '78 Trailduster with a 440 and full time 4WD used more gas than it could carry to get to the end of the driveway 🙂

For hours of reading, go to the Escapees forum and look at the HDT(Heavy duty Truck) thread.

Escapees *Forums* - Lots of forums, HDT is one of them.

Folks start or post to threads on the various forums (here or there).

Escapees HDT Forum

For HDT info and LOTS of photos - go to the *Resource Guide* sticky on the HDT forum.

HDT - remaining tandem = Class 8
Singled (most owners single, remove one of the rear axles) = Class 7

~

Why the decline in MDTs?

Many states require MDTs to be registered as a Commercial vehicle.
*NO* non-commercial (or - "private truck").

Commercial = big bucks, plus "commercial" headaches!

However - many states allow HDTs to be registered as Motor Homes.
In CA a license fee for a Motor Home of equivalent value to a pickup,
the MH will be considerably less.

CA MDT fees are (and have always been) *astronomical*!! due to the load carrying capacity.

An MDT can't meet the (Fed and/or state req's) to be licensed as a MH.
(Unless it's a Toter Home - MH conversion).

BTW, "Cummins12V98" - Dave Smith Motors (Kellog, ID) isn't exactly a "hub" for used vehicles of any kind..:W

A trade (of any kind) defeats the purpose of DSM volume sales and related savings on the purchase.

(Of course "Tommygun" - at Lou Futz, Dodge in MO - was beating DSM prices. Maybe his replacement still is. Don't know who the GM competition is/was).

Op if you like that type of truck there great deals to be had on them. With the big 3 having huge tow ratings people are dumping their Medium Duty Trucks for one of the 350/3500 11 and newer trucks.

Where do you find the data that supports the claim "people are dumping their MDT's "?

Talked to lot's of people over the last couple of years. Dave Smith won't take in trade for any reasonable amount, they say they are hard to get rid of. Not the hot item they used to be.

There are far fewer in the camp grounds where full timers go in my observations.

It is a Ramcharger; was a Sheriff vehicle. On the driver's side you can still see the 'Sheriff' paint on it really faint. Still has the wig-wag controller on the headlights. Can't see it in the picture but it is sitting on 1-ton axles. Hopefully later this year we will get the new 360 swapped in to it.
