I guess the proper word is Social Stigma.
How many feel it?
You tell someone you live in your motorhome and you get a great sense that you just became less of a person.

I have no problem with it really I just find it aggravating.

I envy those of you who either have the guts to do it or are not encumbered with other things, so you're free to do it. There's a side of me that would like to do it, but then I allow myself to get so involved with other things locally that I can't quite let go and do it. Those that are critical either make their life decisions based on fear of the unknown or in ignorance.

I like the Eleanor Roosevelt quotes...so true.

I suspect it may have to do with what RV you live in. A big new/newish DP or 5er and folks think "cool" - a small rig and/or older rig and they think you're one of the homeless. Definitely a bias out there.

I agree with this to a point. And many RV Parks certainly are looking down their company noses at TT's and anything that doesnt fit their "image".

I find many people are curious and say things like "oh I'd like to do that" Or : "How lucky you are to be able to travel all the time"

But in reality there does exist this perception that somehow you are the modern version of the Joad family out of Grapes of Wrath.

In all the years that we have been fulltime, I have never experienced this. Most are awed by the freedom we have to be in the places we want to visit.

Some say they could not be without a "home" to go back to.

We found most folks very polite and curious, some could not grasp just how one could just pick up and move from place to place. I suspect some were a bit envious, some were appalled by the idea of such a thing! DW and I always felt happy to answer their questions, after all, thats how we were introduced to this wonderful lifestyle.

We've never experienced any condescension during our travels. Most view our chosen lifestyle through a combination of awe (how did you ever do it?), envy (wish we could do that) and curiosity (can you tell us how we can do it?).

Many people simply create their own obstacles to their own happiness. Within minutes of hearing our tale, we often receive their rationale of the why and how they cannot join the ranks of full-timers (although they sure seem to want to).

On occasion, our interaction with those we meet provided the inspiration required to 'take the leap' themselves (but this is the most rare of experiences).

In my opinion, the subject matter (deciding to live on the road) has little to do with people's hesitation. Certain individuals simply do not have the ability to "live life deliberately." They have lived life the same way going back generations - and while most seem content, they cannot see the world through a different set of eyes but their own.

many paths to happiness exist in this world. Pick the path you want, and then go out and live it.

Has never bothered me what other people think. Some people drive Fords, some people drive Chevys. Some people FT, others don't. I always do what I think is best for me at the time and don't really care what others think. I have heard comments you posted though. Just let it go. Everybody doesn't realize the enjoyment of RVing. Good thing because it is hard enough finding good places to park our RV:B

We just finished a 13 year stint as full timers in a 40 foot pusher. We still have the pusher and will for the foreseeable future as we continue to live in it for 4 or 5 months of the year. We saw both sides of how people react. Some with pity, some with jealousy and some with admiration and wanting to jump in themselves.

We bought a 1500 square foot 2 bedroom town house a few months ago. All kinds of wasted space and we find ourselves buying stuff just to fill up big rooms. Our freakin master bedroom is 30 feet long. Why do we need three bathrooms. But the timing and price was right so we jumped back in the market. Kinda nice but I never felt hard done by in the coach.

To each his own.

We live in a house built in 1790 on 50+ acres of mostly woods. We travel quite a bit but like to be home by the pool in the summer.

Most of our family think we are crazy to keep the house.
