I was sitting in my fourth meeting of the day, and the urge came over me to get out of the office and hit the open road with our Pickup and Fifth-wheel. And I'm not talking about taking a vacation. So I left the meeting, walked into the my boss's office and let him know I'm going to take early retirement!

This is a huge change in our life and we can't wait. We have some personal business to take care of, but by February, we're going to go full time for at least 6-7 months to see how we like it.

The wife and I have a lot to learn, and we'll be studying the forum for answers over the next couple months. Wish us luck, and we hope to see you on the road.

Enjoy.
I came to the conclusion that most meetings were for the benefit of those who did not know what was going on so they could pretend to know what was going on.

After we were full-timing for two years, the doc told us to stay out there as our health actually improved ... some of our stress was from social clubs and being involved as officers.

Now we volunteer and enjoying the variety and also the new history we are learning and enjoy learning more about the history of our country .. we will spend the Fall on the Oregon Coast, then to Ft. Yamhill to learn the history of that area also ... have already volunteered at Ft. Clatsop so will be interesting to intersperse the two histories.

Have crossed the states once, and hope to do it again this next year 2014 .. hoping to see friends we have made over the years who are in the mid-west ..

Enjoy your lives .. Stay Safe Out There

I visited inpatient hospice with my pet therapy dog every week. I was the only one that would make the drive. At the time, I was 46 and I would visit patients younger than I that were in the last few days of their life. I would cry all the way home most every day. I told my better half that we needed to get on the road as soon as possible, as life is way too short.

My wife and I installed a new FW hitch in the Ford this weekend and took a short test drive up and down a very steep grade. Wow the power was great, along with the exhaust brake.

My wife and I can't WAIT! Congratulations!!!

I retired very very early and we almost decided to go on the road then w/ our two kids for a year. Then I came out of retirement and went back on the job in another state.

Life on the road will have to wait for us for several more years.

So sorry that you lost your house. Many people do full-time on very little but it takes very unique people to do this. First, do you already have an RV? If you're already renting that amount could easily be put toward a camp spot and getting one with a yearly rate would be very economical and perhaps even cheaper that the rent you're paying now. Is there such a campground near your work? Also check out mobile home parks. They sometimes have RV rental spaces. Do you have any savings for emergencies? health insurance? If you're still working then you really should be in a moderate climate to do this. Winters are brutal in a RV and propane for heat would cost a lot. If you won't be traveling right now you won't have big fuel expenses. You'll have to figure it on paper to see if YOU could really do it. Good luck!

Congrats!!! After 19 years working for the same family and almost thinking I was part of the family reality set in that I really was nothing more than another worker. Always was and always would be.
My better half is already retired so we sold the house & property and a bunch of toys, put the money away and went fulltime a year ago. Like another said,, quite a darn good paying high stress job but have not really looked back with any regrets. If I have to become a door greeter at some point to make ends meet,, so be it.
ENJOY WHAT YOU HAVE NOW!!
