Tool boxes that full timers carry

Newbie to the sight. We are about a year out from our start of full timing. Starting to go thru the garage and thin out all my tools and boxes. Wondering what kind of tools I should keep? Maybe make up two smaller boxes rather then the top of my roll away.
Thanks for any insight and experiences

If I took all that stuff, there wouldn't be enough room for the four cats, three dogs or wife not to mention a bottle or two of Jack Daniels. Get real.

Oh heck that's not even a drop in the bucket!! Lol!
I was also thinking a Miller suitcase welder, full set of sockets and ratchets, vise grips, C-grips, 2-3 different hammers, small air comp, several different kinds of pliers including different C-clips pliers, punches, chisels, too many screwdrivers...never have enough of those, wire ties of many lengths, electrical testing equip, electrical pliers and the list goes on and on!!

Yep, everyone is different. I do my own maintenance so have a pretty complete tool set. I also have a couple of hobbies that also require certain tools. I have a 5 drawer tool chest top section that is pretty full, plus more stuff. Probably 100lb worth of tools. That does not include my small air compressor, 8T hydraulic jack, jack stands.

The answer to your question lies in what type of repairs, maintenance and projects are you capable and willing to do? For those who only will do minor repairs and maintenance a basic toolkit of basic hand tools is all that may be needed, although I would add a multi meter to the kit and a cordless electric drill can come in handy for many things and a credit card. For those who are able and willing to take on significant vehicle maintenance and repairs in addition to the basic hand tools a full blown mechanics set of tools will likely be needed.

I set out as a filltimer with way too many tools. All I have ever needed is the most basic tools....hammer, pliers, screwdrivers, etc. I also have a small hand crank drill and a small saw that have never been used. Bring a caulk gun and tubes of dicor.

Carry the tools that you currently use. I have no idea what your skills are so it wouldn't make sense to advise you to carry an engine hoist. :B

Tools to your level of ability while on the road. Does no good to have all the tools to change out a ball joint if you can not do it along the road or in a campsite. That goes for the mechanical parts.
As for the interior/house side, get yourself a cheap pex crimp tool and some rings to go with it. Grab a couple different elbows and straight joints and maybe even a few sharkbites for hard to reach areas. Add a couple 3 foot pieces of blue and red pex. Some eternabond tape and a tube of dicor/caulking gun.

And a credit card for the hard stuff.

Allegro 32SA and will be towing small P/U or Wrangler. My concern was the weight of my box now and where to carry it. Currently I have a bag made up of tools I carry for weekends and short trips.

Doesn't matter what you have with you, you won't have the correct tool or the right size screw, nut, wire cap, etc. It will take TWO trips to Lowe's or Home Depot to finally get the correct size. Then the 15 minute job will run about 2 hours and at least 15 minutes of shouting at spouse.

OR - you grab your credit card, call a mobile tech to fix it, and sit and drink a nice glass of Cab Franc while the repairs are being made.

I, personally, always pick option #2

In addition to what's already mentioned, buy a #1 & #2 Robertson (square head) screwdrivers. All the screws in most rigs are those, so it's nice to have. You can get them at Harbor Freight or similar places.

I am not full time for another year but have set up my tool box, fluids, and spare parts bin already.

I carry all the basic stuff: vise grips, pliers, several screwdrivers(flat and Phillips), open end and closed wrenches of all sizes, hammers, ratchets and all size sockets.
