Crossing into Canada

I will be camping on the North Shore of Lake Superior in MN from July 18-23 . I will be close enough to Canada that I could drive across.

What requirements do I need to cross ?? And what to cross back ??? I have a Passport (never been used) I have a photo copy of my Covid Card. But, on-line I see all sort of places saying all sorts of things I have to sign up for.

Something about ArriveCAN ? I tried and I can't make that thing work.

Maybe I'm doomed. I only have 2 days to figure it out.

What about all the people I know that don't have the internet or a e-mail address ?

I in a real pickle with my e mail. I always used internet explorer to get it. One day, without sending me a notice, internet explorer no longer support e mail. So my computer guy says what is your e mail address. I tell him it's with CenturyLink and I give him my user name and password (which I have written down). Seems Centurylink doesn't think that is my user name. They will gladly send me a new user name,,,,,by e mail....But, I can't get my e mail without the user name and I can't get the user name without the e mail. :M

So I have been trying to switch everything to gmail. But, my gmail address has a extra Dot in it. Some websites ( including apparently the government of Canada) won't accept a e mail address with a extra Dot in it.

I'll give someone a 100 dollars to get the whole mess straighten out. No one will do it for that low price though.

I'm about ready to move out into the woods of Canada and live like a hermit.

Except,,, OH, that's right !!! I can't get into Canada because I don't have A FLIPPIN E MAIL ADDRESS. :M


What are you fussing about? Just get a new email address. Not that hard.

The border officer would enter your name into his data base and determine if your Arrive Can was proper and you had disclosed a scan of your vaccinations. We just returned from Canada on the 7th.

He never touched his computer. He just looked at the passports and handed them right back. Saw both hands the whole time. I figured he'd do what you said but he didn't. Neither did the agent when we came back across.

We just crossed over from Calais, ME to St. Stephen, NB. We filled out the ArriveCan form on line and the border guard never asked for it. He only wanted our passports. If you read the "fine print" it doesn't say they won't let you into the country but you COULD be denied. To cross back into the US proof that you are a US citizen is all that is needed.

Here is my advice regarding email:
Start over at gmail. Make a new name and account. No dots except before "com".
I have about 5 gmail addresses and it is not a problem. I use one for things I really want, and the others are for the hucksters and morons out there to use.

No. You have to do the arrive can thing LESS than 72 hours before your arrival. It won't let you state a time beyond 72 hours.
But you can enter your data into the app ahead of time and save it. That will help.

So far as I know every thing after the second dot is ignored, so just the email address up to the first dot is needed. The second dot was suggested as a way to tag websites to see if they were sending spam.

"If someone accidentally adds dots to your address when emailing you, you'll still get that email. For example, if your email is johnsmith@gmail.com, you own all dotted versions of your address:

john.smith@gmail.com
jo.hn.sm.ith@gmail.com
j.o.h.n.s.m.i.t.h@gmail.com
