Hello! My name is Eric Brown and I'm a 29 yr old musician. I just bought my first RV. A 1975 Lazy Daze on a Dodge Chassis. She 19' and her name is Dazy...I got her for $150! I'll be heading out into our vast country in October to tour the music I have finished over the last two years! My dog Norman, Dazy and I will be doing this alone..self booked and financed.. And will be documenting it the entire way..I plan to make a documentary about what it takes to make a dream real.

I'll be surviving on $25 a day...gas included..which I will earn from Busking in the streets and selling merch and Cd's..
DIY to the max!!

I love waiting tables but it's not what I was sent here to do. Time to spend my days doing what I love instead of just surviving. I will find a way to stay alive...

I start this forum as a way for you to keep in the loop..if the story sounds fun and you'd like to send any advice or help my way it would mean the world, I'm new to thus and i. Sure I will run into my fair share of problems... Thanks in advance for bailing me out,

Good luck on your trip! It looks like you got yourself a nice little RV.

I read most of your blog posts and it seems like Easy Friend and Facebook are not compatible with WiX.com. They are running across the posts and recent post links making it hard to read everything. I use Firefox so it might be okay on other browsers.

When you have time check on two hoses that a lot of people forget to do, they are at the back and go into the fire wall one carries hot water to the dash heater and the other one is the return, should one develop a leak you can take the other one and short circuit the hot out let to the return, if the outside temperatures are not to cold, you will not have heat in the dash, then use the cabin propane heater.

Good luck

Best of luck on your adventure. I will give you a cold drink if we run into each other on the road. You mentioned vegetables and fruit procurement. The cheapest and freshest are from the roadside stands all over the country. You get what is in season in that area and the stand owners are always willing to share recipes. $25 a day does sound low but staying in one spot for a while will help keep expenses down.

Perhaps you can follow after the example of Walkin' Jim Stoltz. We were fortunate to hear him in the winter near Lone Mountain Ranch, Big Sky, MT, after a horse-drawn sleigh ride with a group of people to a remote, gas lit cabin.

Best of luck!

Sounds like a great trip. I wish I was your age again sometimes, but not for long. You're going to have an experience that a lot of us wish we could have done.

Good luck and enjoy your life experience, I for one am rooting for it to be fun and trouble free! If you ever make it to East Tennessee send me a PM and I'll buy you a beer and a nice meal.

Best of luck with your travels.

There's a ~600 page thread on owning the older Dodges. It might pay you to wade thru it a bit at a time, and keep some notes, especially on the stuff that can strand you on the road. http://www.rv.net/forum/index.cfm/fuseaction/thread/tid/14219250.cfm

As well as I'd like to hope things will go I know there is going to be a lot of not so good...breakdowns mentally and automotively! Storms and mean people but I guess I try not to think of them..I might accidentally will them to happen! Keep the bad thoughts out. I appreciated hearing them from you folks..make sure I'm as ready as I can be!

Mich F, since this is a music tour there will be many stops with at least 5 days each stop for promotion. I have been making at least $25 a day here in LA in 2-3 hours for close to 3 months to prove it to myself...so if I can do close to the same on the road that gives me $25/day x 5 days = $125 a stop. This will end up enough because my longest drive is only 200 miles...all the rest are shorter between cities...this is why the tour is 5 months long!

Working in restaurants I have learned to batch cook the bulk of what I eat on a weekly basis..lentils are very cheap and the Mexican in me can survive on beans and rice! A batch sufficient to feed me for a week will cost under $5.

What is everyone's opinion on what kinds of fruits and veg you can get throughout the middle of this county?? Being in California is not real...we get everything year round!

Also thank you so much for that list of spares to have!! Genius

If you slow-poke it from town to town with little intent while staying off the interstates you'll have the best chance. As for my experiences here is a some what best as I can remember list of spares that traveled with me.

1 spare tire...no room for 2 as I could always single out.

2 spare altenators.

1 spare fuel injector

Enough hoses/rolls of coolant and heater hose

Assorted lighting and wiring.

Assorted brake parts.

1 AC compressor incl. Non-haz coolant.

And other assorted spares.

Worst ever repair was the altenator at 2am in front of the duty free store in Canada at the base of the bridge going to Port Huron...normally a 30 minute job was 2 hours in below freezing very windy Sarnia, On.

Sounds like quite an adventure. I do question how you will get by on $25 a day. You're in a motor home that will get probably between 7-10 MPG. If you do any traveling at all, you'll spend more than that per day on gas alone. :h
